  • moisture inside window

Posted by Georges on June 13, 2012 at 8:28 am

About a 10″ spot has appeared in the middle of my driver’s side window. Is it just from just sitting in the hot and humid sun with all the windows closed and no air circulating inside the bus?

This is a common problem and over the years all of us have likely had to address the issue. The window you mention is a thermopane. The seal has failed and now their is moist air between the two panes.

Owners have dealt with this in many ways. The obvious fix is to order a replacement window from Prevost and have it installed (or do it yourself). Some have used local glass shops to either clean the window and replace the seal or if it is damaged by the moisture rebuild the thermopane. The final solution I have heard from owners is to replace the thermopane with a single glass of similar thickness.

The cost can vary significantly depending on the option you choose and if you do the replacement or have Prevost or a professional auto glass installler do the work.

I will not offer an opinion on which is the best approach, but will stress that whatever approach you choose make absolutely certain the glass is of the same quality of the original in that it is either safety glass or tempered or whatever the original quality is.

BTW, generally speaking removal and installation is not particularly difficult, but involves cutting the original Sikaflex used to secure the window, cleaning the mounting surface of old Sikaflex and then bonding the replacement glass using the factory methods and materials. The shop manual for your coach has all the detail required to understand the procedure.

Georges, There is a place not far from you in Hudson, FL. Around Brooksville, FL Their company name is Suncoast.Several members of Prevosts have had their windows done there and been very satisfied with the work. They also have full hook-ups with campground there if you want to stay over night there. Look them up on the internet. Suncoast.
