  • Mobile WIFI for Streaming

Posted by Robert on October 19, 2025 at 7:54 pm

I have recently terminated my DIRECTV service and wish to go with a service that is more reliable for streaming. I have been advised to consider buying a VERIZON HOT SPOT and stream from it and to consider STARLINK for mobile service. I would prefer to seek advice from people who own a Prevost bus and can offer experienced advice as to what is the most reliable for streaming service and internet connections. If that information is already available on the site, please advise how to access. Thank you in advance for your help! Bob PV

I have used hotspots, Starlink, and Verizon home internet 5G. If you are moving around a lot, I would definitely go with Starlink. We have it installed on the roof with magnets which allows us to take it down and move it if we happen to park under trees. We have 150 ft of cable stored behind the front bumper for when on the ground, but most of the time it works well on the roof. Before we mounted it on the roof, we just set it up outside when we stopped which worked as well. Having it on the roof allows us to use it when driving and removes the step of setting it up in most cases.

We have been parked for 3 months at a single location, so I put the Starlink on pause and got a Verizon home 5G which has worked really well. It saved me almost $100 per month and has been very stable. Although I don’t think it is supported, we did go to another location about 4 hours away for a little over a week and still used the Verizon without problem. They do expect a single address unlike Starlink.

    Happy to answer any questions.

    Mike:

I have Starlink and use it exclusive and enjoy its flawless Operation. I have maintained the unmounted use due to the ability to move the antenna from obstructions, but wish I had permanent mounting for over the road use.

Having said that; I was under the impression that our roofs were aluminum and magnets would not hold the antenna. Please explain your installation, I would like to go down the same road (pun intended).

Where on the roof did you mount it, where did you permanently mount the router and power pack, and exactly how did you deal with the two wire connections needed for roof use and ground use?

I used this kit for the mounting hardware – Starlink Standard Mount | Gen 3 or 4 and Enterprise – Veritas Vans.

I don’t have a picture handy, but I installed it in the middle of the front of the bus. We put the router and power supply in the equipment space over the passenger seat area. Was pretty easy with power existing in place. Then we ran a cable to the roof and to the front bay which I can manually switch if I want to take it off the roof and place it somewhere to avoid trees.

They sell fixed roof mounts on Amazon, I wasn’t 100% happy with what was available so I made my own. My router is in a cabinet above my fridge.

Any chance you could post some pictures?

To clarify, the magnets (I am assuming rare earth magnets) hold securely to the roof.

I have successfully used the T-Mobile Home Internet (I suspect about the same as Verizon) in my bus for a couple of years. I gave them a fixed address and have moved all over the US without issue. We still have DirecTV satellite service with a Winegard Trav’ler but we do stream a few shows each night. The service only costs $30/month and we have never had an issue with the fact that it is supposed to be at a fixed location.

I we ever drop DirecTV satellite service we will move to Starlink and drop the Home Internet service as it would really not be necessary at all. We would absolutely have a removeable roof mount or maybe a 2nd ground mount antenna that I could just swap out on the rare occassion that we were deep in the trees.

The big thing at that point would be figuring out how to watch the Network TV programming on my schedule and not the broadcast schedule like I can now with my DirecTV DVR.

I have YoutubeTV and it records any programs that I designate for future viewing at my convenience (like a DVR but easier). Not the cheapest service at $93/mo but very usable and includes all the broadcast channels that you would want plus news and sports.

I use a Peplink Router and AT&T Prepaid that gives me 100g a month for 55.00. Can be turned on and off as needed.
