Misting System for Basement Air
I have an ’06 Legendary with RVP basement air. It has a misting system attached to the iside of the bay doors to spray water on the AC condensors above a certain temperature. Countrey Coach and others used a similar system.
I need to rebuild one side as it looks like someone previously had a freeze related burst and did an emergency repair that totally FUBARed everything. Only the pklumbing in the door and nozzles need to be replaced.
The piping to the bay door (missing) looks like it should be a 1/4″ PEX or blue poly tubing with push together or compression fittings.
The tougher thing to figure out is where to get the correct fogger nozzles in terms of flow, type of fitting, etc. What is in there now are 3 nozzles on T fittings attached to a straight peice of copper pipe (looks to be 3/8″). With where plumbing has gone today, I would think hard PEX and screw or push together fittings are the way to go and replace the 3/8″ pipe and nozzles that is there. Otherwise, I will need to find a copper based fogger to replace one that is missing from the 3/8″ T and some new thread in fogger nozzles to replace the other two that are clogged.

Ok, after a 4 hour parts hunting expidition, I actually found a local irrigation supply house with a couple of guys that really knew their stuff on misting systems.
I picked up all the parts to rebuild the misting system along with details on nozzles and flow rates as there are different ones. I will poost details when it is all done in case someone else has the same issue.
Fun stuff! I did however get everything in stainless steel so it should look pretty.

While a misting system is very effective at increasing the efficiency of condensers it is a substitute for inadequate air flow and if the water used is hard, such as most water found in the southwest, eventually the coils are going to get coated with the minerals found in that water making them less efficient and requiring more use of the misters.
The acids often used to remove hard water stains and minerals are not friendly to the aluminum typically used in the coils. The best thing to do is try to minimize the use of the misters, insuring there is the maximum air flow possible, and maybe by using a pressure switch so they only function at higher refrigerant pressures, setting the pressure limit to a higher level if possible.
