Mirror Removal
I want to remove my entire mirror assembly on my ’92 to have it replated. Couple questions:
1. If I remove the 4 giant philips head screws, how easily does the wiring harness disconnect? (connector, cut and re-solder??)
2. Any advice on how easy it is to disassemble the actual mirror shell (morors, heaters, glass) to prep it for shipping?
3. Any favorite (the elusive “cheap but good”) place to have it done?

Wire harness will come apart easier than the effort it takes to break those big screws free. Disassembling everything is relatively easy. I have never removed the mirror glass, but I understand it to be attached using velcro.
This assumes you mean the Ramco mirrors, not the Velvac.

When you reinstall the mirrors, be certain you seal the base to bus area well; I used silicone. If you have the slightest leak here, you tend to get an air whistle.

Make yourself a special tool from a hacksaw blade, your looking for the strong temperd springy steel’s characteristic. Grind off all the teeth and round off the sharp edges. You will have a strong and flexible tool that will not mar or scratch the chrome or mirror.
Work the tool in behind the mirror while pulling gently and carefully on the mirror to release the velcro bond holding the mirror in the housing.
All done.
