Larry,

A friend tows an automatic front wheel drive on an Acme Tow Dolly. He likes this brand for its 10 inch tires makeing it easier to attached wheel straps to secure the car to the dolly.

Another friend tows a standard shift 4 down by putting it into neutral. Both like their cars.

Why tow a Mini? Can’t you just pick it up and stick it in a bay until you need it?

Roger has towed a number of Minis and when we were with him he would run it for several minutes at every break we took. I don’t think the Mini is approved for towing 4 down, but I am not aware of any issues Roger had, but he was cautious and did run it perieodically to make sure the trannie was getting lubed.

Yes I have towed two different models with the manual tranny many miles, Whenever I would take a breakevery 3 hours or so I would start the engine and let it lubricate the inside of the tranny. Never had a problem- just don’t forget to cut it off when you pull out.

I also had an automatic mini that I used with a dolly- much easier to tow the manual transmission. Most campgrounds don,t have parking for the tow car and a dolly.

Jon is correct as ususal – I did push the bus out of the road with the mini when I ran out of fuel with the bus. I ran out of fuel after some thief sucked out 100 gallons of fuel at the Flying J In Gillette Wyoming were we spent the night..

I had a Mini Cooper that I towed for 3800 miles over three weeks a few years back with my coach. No problems whatsoever towing 4 down with a Blue Ox hitch. Never started it to “lube” the tranny either – didn’t know you had to and didn’t ever show any ill effects afterwards so I wonder if this is even needed…..
