  • Mini Airbags

I’m about to replace the 3 mini airbags (belt tension) in the engine compartment. One of them is leaking and the others won’t be far behind. It looks straightforward enough. One question regarding the airline fittings: Are these supposed to be self sealing or should I use teflon tape when reassembling?

    Thanks, Gerald

I haven’t used tape on those fittings, but just check it to verify it’s not leaking. The one on the bottom below the fan is a bitch to get the bolt back in, your arms are never long enough!!! If they’re not leaking, I would just keep an eye on them and keep a replacement in stock.

Gerald, I always use a sealing compound on a pipe thread unless instructions for a specific appication state otherwise.

I would take the time to change all of the mini bags and not have to worry that the difficult bag will let you down on the road where it will be even more difficult to change out.

By your posts you are getting involved in your bus, continue to work on it and get familiar with it. Spend as much time and energy on it as you are able. In this way you will be at ease when you are on a trip and something goes ary. You will know what you have done and be more aware of the “workings” of the coach as a whole. This takes time and you have a good start.

The major leak came from the pressure regulator up high on the back engine compartment wall. I disassembled and cleaned it. The gasket looked ok so I reused it. It is holding air now. The other two leaks came from air line connections, one push in, the other flared. I also replaced one of the mini airbags but it looked pretty new, so I left the other harder to get to bags for now.
