May be a premature question…
Posted by Tom on December 21, 2015 at 2:27 pmI have not pulled the panel to take a look, so this question might be premature. My 12V heat (Webasto) works great…all the exchangers blowing except the one under the galley…and that’s probably the most important one of all. It simply does nothing which leads me to think there’s an issue with the fan, given the other exchangers seem to be working properly. The heat is probably there, it’s just not getting blown into the cabin from under the galley.
Anyone got any suggestions before I start taking the access panels out and getting under the galley to the exchanger/fan area?

As a general rule if all the others are working except one my first thought is either a bad motor or the motor is not getting power.
Unfortunately to find out you have to do whatever it takes to get to the motor so you can first check to see if you have power, and then depending on the answer, go from there.

Jon…
You have just ruined my Christmas wish. I just knew there had to be an easier way…but, alas…It’s what you get when you havn’t been good all year! ty

It’s a squirrel cage fan and you don’t have to mess with the heat exchanger. Jeff just did one for Tim.

I’m sure you’ve already checked that all your zone thermostats are calling for heat. For example my bathroom thermostat may call for heat, and the bathroom will heat, but there’s an additional thermostat for the water closet which works in tandem with the bathroom thermostat. So you can tailor the water closet heat a little more. Doubt this will help you but an easy thing to check…

One more thing Tom assuming your SMX controls are like mine, make sure you double tapped the SMX heat for the galley and are getting the slow blinking heat light. My galley thermostat is off quite a bit for heat, so if I want to see 68, I have to run it up to 73 to get it going. I’ll adjust that, but just haven’t done it yet.
You should easily be able to seperate the wire plug connection behind the grill and check for power to determine if your motor is toast.

Thanks, guys…Sure appreciate the thoughts. I will pull that panel beneath the galley sink and take a look. As far as operating the SMX…I’ll never forget how I learned! We were staying in Fries, VA in January a few months afer getting the bus…14 degrees one morning…55 in the motorhome…brrr!
I hadn’t been shown the operation of the SMX/12V heat…I knew it was there, I just didn’t know how to make it work. So grabbed some warm clothes and got on the laptop and quickly found out about the “double tap” … the technique I was missing.
A few minutes after firing that baby up, comfy and cozy once again….Sometimes, I’m so thankful for the internet!

Like Tom mentioned, one of my blowers for the Webasto in the stairs leading to the cockpit was making a huge amount of noise. Jeff replaced the motor and now no issues. At least in my coach, I have 2 Webasto blowers (both work off the SMX panel), 2 110v blowers (one which works off the SMX control panel, and the four heat pumps/AC units which all work off the SMX control panels. I still have a stainless steel panel/vent as you enter the bus in the dash which I can’t figure out what it does. Any ideas?

It’s for access to a A/C air filter. The screws are removed which gives you access to a clip, pulling gently can remove a narrow 18 inch filter which needs to be cleaned. The dust and dirt on that filter is from the A/C recirculation button on the A/C dash control.

Thx Al! Is that for the primary dash A/C or the Aux dash A/C?

Tim …
If your coach is like mine and I bet it is…the chrome grill has an air filter/screen behind it. The grill is removed and the screen/filter will slide out…it is long and narrow. It has to be removed to vacuum.
