Massive Shower Leak Fixed
My sweet Elegant Lady was suffering from a massive shower leak. Determined the drain shoe attachment had rusted away, allowing the drain to pull away from the bottom of the shower pan. Was able to fix the leak with a metal 1.5 inch diameter sink tailpiece. Verified fix by filling shower with water, and then after it was allowed to sit for an hour, removed the temporary drain plug, and all the water went into the holding tank – not one drop leaked!! Thankful for this site and the kind repair advice offered. Here is the before and after picture.

Good job… Just thinking about tearing the shower apart for a drain leak is a nightmare.

Eric, is that a tile shower base or a premade pan?

I do not know. I do know there is a slight open area under the shower pan, about the height of the drain shoe. Hope that helps.

My shower pan is different than yours in that I installed a new shower drain & filter, and it simply screwed off/on the threaded pipe already installed. But if I had a leak underneath the shower pan, that would be a nightmare, requiring removal of the shower and at least one cabinet.

Thanks. I was concerned because in residential construction a tile shower base always has a membrane under the tile or mud base with a seperate means for drainage into the drain below. To clarify, I have no idea how they do them in coaches. Looks like a fine repair so long as it was designed for all of the drainage to be from the surface. Jeff
