  • Mass exodus from Atlanta?

Posted by Chas on October 13, 2014 at 9:52 am

So on my way home from Birmingham last night, I notice a couple Prevosts running west on I20. After 5 or so I was thinking I missed the memo and was heading into some bad things where Prevosts weren’t allowed or something.

By the tenth Prevost, I was starting to think something else was happening. Normally you would see this number of coaches coming down I75 out of Nashville, but I20 isn’t your standard entertainer route. At least not in that quantity, and these weren’t entertainers?

Then I saw the NAPA NASCAR trucks and put 2 and 2 together. Drivers and teams running out to Talladega for the Fall NASCAR Race next weekend. It wasn’t like Talladega flying all their flags along I20 and the campgrounds getting setup this past weekend wasn’t a clue or anything.

One of these days I will make it to Talladega for one of the races, but they seem to be back to back with events at Barber Motorsports (IndyCar and Vintage Motorcycle Festival) which would make it a two weekend trip for me (not that it would be a bad thing, just need to plan for it).

This is the first year in quite a few that I have not done Barber. It is a great weekend. I’ve never registered early enough to get one of the RV sites with hook ups – always dry camped. Maybe next year.

RV Spots are selling out quicker and quicker for the Vintage Festival. Estimated numbers were 65,000 people this year. The place was packed and it keeps getting better each year.
