Marathon XLll
Posted by Archived on April 2, 2018 at 3:21 pmI have finally decided to take the plunge and buy a used Marathon XLll. I’m trying to decide between a 2006 or a 2007, are the newer slides worth buying the 2007?
Well we have decided on the 2007 Marathon XLll
Thanks for any input.

I dont have any experience as an owner of the 4th gen slides, or any slides for that matter but the idea of them doing away with the 6 pins on the side seems legit. The way it was explained was that the shell no longer counts on the slide room as part of the structure but rather a large beam welded across the bottom of the slide room completes the integrity of the shell. Probably takes a lot of stress from the slide when it is going in/out and the coach is not perfectly level.
2007 is the not only the year Prevost went to the 4th gen slides, but also the multiplex system which is pretty cool too. Im sure you already know but keep in mind more often then not the chassis year will be one year behind the titled conversion year so the new style slides you speak of are often found on an 08 coach.

That was when multiplex and “pinless” slides came into being on the chassis.
If I was to have to make a choice between the two model years I would evaluate the differences. When Prevost went to “pinless” slides the structure changed so instead of the slide having a ring around it reinforcements (to replace the structure that ran beneath the windows and over the bay doors ) were added to the upper part of the bays. The downside to that change was mostly going to impact the converters, but depending on how you use the coach and what you personally want to store in the bays may be affected. Compart both coaches to determine if that change will be a problem for you.
The multiplex system is a very large plus because it provides features not previously available in addition to simplifying the diagnostics relating to electrical issues. The only downside I can think of is any changes you want to make to the electrical system such as changing the number or type of light bulbs on the chassis will require reprogramming.
For me the 07 coach would be the choice.
Regardless of model year however I would have the skins inspected by Prevost for possible delamination before I did anything.

Wait a minute Bernie, weren’t you supposed to get your new Marathon in May?
Was there a delay on the gold-plated custom-made spoke spinners that Deborah wanted?
Ha Ha, Jus kid’n. Anticipation just makes the excitement grow more!
Safe travels,

I’ve been on visiting and rode along with Bernie several times in his bus.
Other then when in use its bus barn stored. Bernie installed A/C in his bus barn as Palm Springs, CA. gets a little toasty during the summer.
Where could you find a bus that has spent most of its life in humid free conditions.
It’s an excellent well cared for 2007 Marathon XLII.
