Marathon under cupboard lights stopped working
Posted by Gerald on February 20, 2017 at 9:46 pmThe under cupboard lights over the galley and over the table (four halogen lights each) stopped working today. They are controlled by separate switches- one mechanical momentary switch, the other a Techlink membrane switch. All other halogen lights work fine. I thought maybe a Techlink glitch, so I rebooted the bus by turning ALL house and chassis battery switches off. But this did not help.
None of the Techlink DC breakers in the stateroom cabinet are tripped.
Any ideas of what to check next? Anyone familar with the workings of the Techlink light system?

Gerald,
If your coach is wired similar to my ’03 Marathon, a fuse may be blown on that under galley cabinet circuit. You should find a row of fuses in the electrical area located in the road side corner of the bedroom rear closet. Look for a fuse with a red led lit just underneath it.

Ther are also fuses inside some of the techlinc boxes. I replaced one inside once. Took me forever to figure that one out!
I dont know now if yours will be…. but thought I’d mention it.

Gerald,
The Node Relays have a fuse inside for each button function. You have to find the Node Relay and remove the cover to replace the fuse.
They like this…

Tom,
thanks for the picture. I have a wall of relays and switches on the passenger side of the main bedroom closet. Your switches seem to be marked per function, I believe mine are all blank. I’ll go and have a look.

I checked the Techlink wiring closet. Nothing obvious and the outputs of my FET/Relay nodes are not labeled. I noticed when a node is active (e.g. a light is on), a small LED is lit within the node. When I turned on the master light switch, several nodes did not light up. I guess, those are the ones to check for blown fuses when I have more time.
I’m always amazed at the quality of the wiring.

If you call Leon at Marathon, he can tell you where the node relays are for each Techlink function.

When you rebooted the Techlink system, did you turn off the inverter switches during the process?
Did you;
Turn off things inside coach like TVs, heaters or A/C
1) disconnect coach from shore power or shut down generator
2) turn off 2 main chassis battery switches in engine bay
3) turn off 2 inverter switches by inverters
Wait a couple minutes then
Reverse the process to re-power up.
Remember to re-set you inverters to ON at the inverters displays in the bedroon
Inverters will go directly to bulk charge for awhile and then automatically go to float

Yes, I went through a full reboot of the bus, shorepower off, all house and chassis batteries disconnected. Waited 20 seconds and connected the batteries again and reset the inverters. Everything is fine except those two light strings.
My guess is that I have a failed network output switch (TELN 1022). Leon at Marathon pointed me to FET-6, which I found in the rear closet. I opened it up, both internal fuses are ok, the supply voltage is 13V. I looked up the user manual for the TELN 1022 switch. It has internal override switches which are supposed to provide power output independent of the logic state, but in my case they had no effect.
Essentially my vintage of Marathon comes with a multiplexed network of programable input and output switches to manage lights and other devices. Must have been pretty state of the art in 1999. A vist to Coburg may be in order unless someone else has a bright idea.

Call Brian or Susan at Techlon now called ” Electronic Design Solutions inc”. 610-682-9764 or lookup their Web site http://www.techlon.com
Brian designed and supplied the complete Techlon system on your vintage Marathon as well as up to the early 2000’s when Marathon started doing the own.
He is very helpfull and has new parts or can also repair old Nodes if not damaged to bad. Their business is located near Allentown,PA .
I have called him several times and he was always very helpful and more than willing to gave me advice on troubleshooting and always solved my problem quickly.
His wife Susan has also been helpful when you need to buy parts.
They are great people.

Thank you for this post! I just reached out to EDS to see if they can help me with the lighting problem I just posted about…

Gary, thanks for the contact information. Marathon is on my way home, so I’ll try them first. Good to know, that there is someone that can work on these switches

I stopped by at Marathon in Coburg this morning and was back on the road after an hour. The Techlon output switch was fine but according to their technician it had lost its network ID so it would no longer respond to commands on the network. He reprogrammed it using their diagnostic computer and everything is working as before. It is not a common problem but they have seen it before. I also picked up a paint touch up kit. Very nice folks
