Marathon Techlon System – EDSI
So I have been on the road with the bus for three weeks dry camping on a job site in Indianapolis. I have an electrical gremlin which keeps appearing in my bathroom switching (4 switch unit Toilet Light – Exhaust Fan- Blank – Switch Lights). The lights, fan, and switch lights won’t come. I went through all the steps of resetting coach to reboot but nothing.
I called Marathon and talked to their new Tech Support team …. they tried helping but then just gave up said send the module back. Their tech support had me chasing the wrong Techlon 1229 module by pulling apart the vanity 6 feet away and looking for #1229 Techlon module.
Then I remembered a post on this site about the guy name Brain Gabel who invented the Techlon system for Marathon. I look up the previous post on this site and called him. What a wealth of knowledge.
If you have a older Marathon between #400 and #800 and have any ….I mean any switching issues he should be your first call. He walked me through the process of finding the right Techlon 1229 module. It was behind the refrigerator. You just have to remove the lower toilet cabinet – 4 screws that sits in front of you when sitting on the toilet.
The problem keeps re-occuring .. as Brian said it may …but in my call to Brian he explained how the system actually works. That is worth a million dollars … to know now how the Techlon system works. And to know their is someone supporting it 19 years later.
Brian tells me the Techlon 1229 module has a ESI logic memory that only lasts 10 years by design specification. My coach is 19 years old. So when I get back to Texas I will send the 1229 module for toilet lights and fan back to Brian to have it re-flashed.
In the meantime its a simple reset process every time it loses its mind. He explain what the 1229 module does and how it interfaces with the FET modules in back of coach. He lead me to the water bay panel in ceiling door two LH to check and see if power circuit breakers were blown and explain that the automotive fuses in my water bay panel should all be 4 AMP. I had a mixture of 2 amp, 3amp, 4 amp. They are now all 4 amp.
This information is priceless if you work on your own coach. It is also good to know that Brian supports all the Techlon system (manuals online and sells parts). He has a laptop he can send you to help trouble shoot the complete system remotely.
I will not be calling Marathon for a Techlon issue anymore. Because your don’t have to stick your head up a cows a%s to see a good steak….just ask the butcher.

Always get a chuckle when someone else finds out about Brian. Nothing short of amazing. I say a little prayer every night for his (and Susan’s) continued health. And the guy has the patience of a saint. Mike

Ed: Still dry camping in Indianapolis? Check out the Indianapolis Fairgrounds Campground. We have stayed there numerous times (including December when the water is turned off). 24/7 security. Great location right in Indianapolis on East 38th Street, easy access to I-65 and then wherever you want to go. Can’t remember price, but I thought very reasonable for FHUs.
Another option might be Raceview Campground in Clermont across the road from Lucas Oil/Indianapolis Raceway Park … the NHRA drag strip, paved oval, and road course. They “usually” open only for big events (NHRA Nations, Indy 500, BY 400, etc.) but they might be coaxed into opening early for the 500. I don’t think they have FHUs … but their 50amp is good (especially after the local POCO understood that 50amp in an RV park means EVERYONE will draw 50amps). There is a dump station and fresh water available. The place is HUGE.

Our bathroom light module has lost its mind as well on our last trip. How do you reset the input module assuming I can find it?

Bathroom Lights like Bath, Vanity, Vanity Accent, Bath heat, etc a eight button switch next to vanity. Is under vanity outboard of the removable forward panel in cabinet.
Lights above Toilet a 4 button switch.
1229 module is behind lower cabinet in toilet area looking straight ahead. When you remove cabinet there are two 1229 modules. Top module is one you are looking for. Its power comes from jumper from lower module.
First make sure when you see if power is coming to module. There is a light inside it. The side of 1229 is label SW Light and reset. 1st make sure the light comes on. So you may need to remove it from wall. DO NOT remove ground strap. Just loose four mounting screws and tilt module so you can see light.
If light comes on you have power to module. If not it gets more complicated then for me to explain. Push down reset button for a second or two. Lights on switch should some on red an go out. Memory restorted. If problem persists call Brian…

An update. I was able to get our bathroom lights back to work by rebooting the bus (disconnect all 12/24 V switches). After turning power back on I kept pushing the light button for 10 seconds. Voila, I had light again. The Techlink light buttons act as dimmers and in our case the Techlon switch decided to dim all the way down or more likely it lost its dim level information.
