  • Marathon Techlink Conversion to Rasberry Pi

Posted by Archived on April 26, 2018 at 7:37 am

Had my boat anchor PC controlled Techlink updated to Rasberry Pi and the difference is amazing. The Pi and it’s components are very small and easy to use and will have no heat related issues. All Techlink screens and numbers were simply calibrated with a Laptop and are now more accurate. The job was done at Marathon San Antonio and I couldn’t be more pleased.

My rebooting of the PC days are over.

We turn our PC off when we aren’t using the bus. No biggie!

    Tom,

If you think your rebooting days are over, you have another thing coming. I’ve had the RasPi in the coach since we’ve owned it.

I should have said my rebooting days will be easier, not having to disassemble the overhead cabinet and then go through the correct sequence.

The purpose of my post was to make Marathon owners aware of a better system and performance than the old PC.

Of course nothing can be viewed as positive by some.

And why would you avoid the heat if it’s in the same overhead space above the driver as mine?

    Did they locate it elsewhere?

    Tim,

Ours is located right above the driver’s seat. Don’t have any experience with the PC, but resetting the coach resets the RasPi, which sounds a lot easier than disassembling the overhead. Probably have had to reset the coach about a dozen times since we got it. Issues have been one burned-out connector in the RasPi, one power transformer and one monitor. So far Marathon have made the repairs under warranty. Not that we will buy another coach, but if we did, we would not consider anything but a Marathon.

I put an “On/Off” switch to my tech link cpu, next to my Blue Ray player, so I didn’t have to open up the overhead compartment to reset the cpu.

But I’m just wondering if Marathon locates the CPU somewhere besides the overhead compartment since he mentioned he doesn’t have to worry about heat now.

    Tim,

According to the tech, heat will have no impact on the Pi. I have fans in the overhead to move air around, the PC needed that. The Pi is running on Linux and according to Andre, that is a much more stable OS than the PC Windows like in the Small PC removed.

Keep your dinosaur, when it craps out, there is an option.

Is there a new rasberry pi in my future?

Dash monitor shows all screens jumbled as one.

Where is my tech link? Is this it?

    John,

The small PC that controls the Techlink could be in the overhead, under the bed, in a cabinet, etc. You’ll have to find it and take the power off and back on and see if it will reset. If not, best bet is to call Marathon for some help. It could be a number of things such as the video controller and they can help diagnose it.

So, that’s not it. What is it?

It has two phone line type multiple wire connectors on the back.

It also has a video type cable that is connected to this AverMedia device, which

has an RCA cable to the monitor in the dash. There is nothing under the bed

    or behind the bed.

Call Chris at Marathon John, I know nothing about that gizmo.
