Marathon Refer lock
Does anyone know how the marathon refer lock works in an early 2000 XL2? (though, the chassis might not really matter)
Ours has a newer residential fridge… and i’ve Been using a strap to lock it and it sucks.
Was the original lock a magnetic thing? A solenoid like a door lock? Or? Anyone know?
i want to basically replicate the original design… but wanted to know what they originally did so that I could try to do it that way.

We have a magnetic lock that engages when the ignition is on. When we replaced the refrigerator, Marathon Grand Prairie installed new magnets on the doors and freezer drawer. They work great, we have a button next to the refrigerator that will disengage the magnets if you need to access the refrigerator while the engine is running.

Our fridge has magnets on the bottom of both the freezer and refrigerator. The magnets engage when the ignition switch is turned on. There is a switch on the wall to disengage the magnets when you’re engine is running, and then it resets in 5 seconds, or so, so no spills are possible.

I have the same issue, replaced the fridge and no room to remount the magnet assembly. We use a wide Velcro strip on top the fridge, black on black, you can’t see it and it holds really well.

My 2007 has an air piston type thing that locks the doors shut and can be released by pressing a button near the refer.

I did not realize I was living in the stone ages. Our fridge has cabinet type latches and they will not hold well. My resourceful wife uses gaffer tape while traveling. It does not look good but she says it looks better than food all over the floor.

We just started using an Irwin Quick Grip clamp on the oem amana side by side door handles in August. It’s not elegant, but it does a good job and we hide it when someone comes over. The Liberty design succumbed going over Teton Pass.

Look closely at those stone age “cabinet latches”. One or more of the hooks might have broken off over your years of enjoying your coach and hence needs to be replaced; this happened to a couple of the latches on drawers in the bedroom. They are Southco latches which come in two or more strengths and are available on the Internet. After we replaced our Amana a few years ago, I dragged my feet in putting the Southco latches on the new Kenmore. Since the freeze and refrigerator door handle are next to each other, we use a long Velcro strap to hold them together and keep the door from opening.
I’m sure at your next trip to ETLC Jeff and his crew could install new Southco latches for you. They worked fine on our Amana until the Amana quit working.

Thank you, Dick. I am aware of those latches and replaced several after I purchased the bus. The first or second time I went to Jeff’s I bought the heavy duty ones from him. They are 10 lb if I remember correctly.
They work fine until we load the freezer drawers with meat.

I replaced the fridge in December & install Decorite latches # 5838 at the bottom of the French Doors. Keeps them locked when we travel.
