I really take offense at above post questioning Marathon support.

No one forced me to buy Marathon. Purchasing 3 Marathons over a 10 year period shows excellent product and customer support, I received this before and after each sale.

Before making bashing comments maybe we should have more facts about what happened ?

They are the largest converter (1300 and counting) in the world, have 3 locations offering factory 24/7 support. No other converter offers that.

I am a Marathon super fan and won’t likely be driving anything but a Marathon in my lifetime. I don’t take Steve’s comments as bashing. I just reread his posts.. He only said they aren’t for him given what he is able to get from him. Several of us provided personal experiences in hopes of providing a different perspective based on our experiences…

The decision is his.. so let’s all agree to disagree take a deep breath and move one. or we might need Jon, Mark and the liberty crew to dispense some rose pedals 🙂

Guys I’m not bashing Marathon or any other converter , it’s their decision and it’s not for me. I know they are a great product with high quality. My experience with two other converters has been positive with great customer support. For me personally I just prefer having all the info possible in hand to help troubleshoot a problem and understand the build as much as possible . Simple as that !!

I’m not sure of Steve’s objectives, but it sounds like he wants a newer coach but only if he can get schematics and the codes.

He is between a rock and a hard place.

The coach world has changed from when we had our 87 Liberty with simple systems and the most complex component was a relay. The entire electrical system on both the chassis and conversion was simple fuses or circuit breakers, switches and relays. Nothing was computerized. You did not even need wiring diagrams because all wires were numbered at each end.

But the times have changed.

In late 2006 or early 2007 Prevost coaches became multiplex and while the driver’s information display will show information to use in concert with the electrical diagrams will help to isolate the malfunction any changes to the electrical system will require reprogramming by Prevost. Just something as simple as changing a headlight that has a different current draw from the original will require reprograming.

The converters have long been using systems like Crestron or proprietary systems and changing a television often requires reprogramming. The converters are not going to share their codes.

So the bottom line is accept the fact you cannot do everything you want, and will have to rely on Prevost or converter support, or keep the coach you have and understand. An extreme solution is to have a converter build a coach specifically for you and provide all the schematics and codes.

I have own my share of orphan 5 wheels. The most important system on a Prevost are the coach systems. You must be able to get from point A to B.

The Techlon electrical system on Marathon (mid 90’s to mid 20’s) most folks cannot trouble shoot even if you had wiring diagrams. But, Marathon owners have another resource when working on this Marathon system. Brain Gabel and his wife Sue designed the Marathon System from 1996 to 2010 an are available for trouble shooting the CMS which is the brains of the bus.
