Marathon Coach Has Trace Inverter Solution
If you have a 2000’s Marathon Coach and it is using the original Trace inverters, like mind, 22 years old. Marathon Coach is now offering a Magnum MSH4024 replacement solution. I have been nursing the old Trace inverters along since one decided to blow up and I replaced it with a unit I found on Facebook Marketplace. These units are heavy so shipping them to repair is not to cost effective especially if there are no parts available.
I have used Inverter Services TN for help in past to try and repair a board no luck. So, I have been waiting on a new solution that would be plug and play with old Trace system and coexist with Marathon’s Techlink System. Marathon has it now. They have inverters in stock in Texas and Colburn facility so we loaded up the bus and had the folks at Marathon Texas put in two new units. i kept the old Trace units for my new solar man cave.
Marathon is working in concert with Magnum to customize these units internally to work with Techlink. Its 105 degrees F in Texas the units took three days to install and program. Price out the door was reasonable. Considering Inverter $2600 x 2 sell, Controllers $300 x2, generator module $250 x 1.
You may as well take a trip to Pandora and try and find some Uobtainium when trying to find inverters these days. We were living on borrow time with Trace Inverters going down the road. This is a very nice solution.

When I got my Featherlite about 4 years ago one of the trace inverters was shot. Had the magnums installed (minus the auto gen start) and they have worked fine. Just know that nothing new is as robust as the old trace’s are. I have experienced overloads shutdowns on the magnums when I push the limits.

When I have bus parked in barn I always shut the charging off on one of my Magnum 2812 inverters, They will never sink on the charging, They are suppose to go into full charge drop to around 12.8 v then float around 13.2v but with both on they will never do that. That’s the only time I do that. I like the easy controls on the Magnums when I park some were with only a 15amp cord I shut charging down on 1 inverter and the other I set shore on 5 amps the keep batteries charged.

As I was pointing out .. these inverters are setup up with internal hardware and programming specifically for Marathon coaches in concert with Magnum according to Marathon Coach. The battery temp sensors are eliminated by Marathon. Autogen is locate on Inverter 1 only.
At least now I can buy a two controller and a Autogen box as spares.
The control panel is very nice to use. But a work of caution, the controller software revision and the inverter software level must be checked to ensure they are compatible. Or they do not work together. So when ordering a spare controller you have to check this link below in pictures using Magnum website. Magnum has very good documentation on line for all manuals on accessories and owners manuals

Victron inverters are a lot better than Magnum and similarly priced. I’d suggest taking a look at currentconnected.com at their options

Less then $10K…..parts and labor….they do all the programming. If you have Marathon Coach with Techlink ….no hassles and warranty.
Marathon owners know that their Techlink Cabin Management System has two computers. One is call the waterbay board and the other is called the generator bay board. Blow up a generator board messing with inverter and you spend a third of that number above in Marathon Bucks.
Marathon does not have a Victron Energy solution. If they did, they would have installed Victron. What they have is a Magnum Sensata Technologies solution because they found it to be the most capable and compatible to support their coach owners with technology they have tested.
