I don’t think the 104 is a bouble flare because it is just a slightly smaller version of the 259.

Jon, see my pic above. I’m installing them now on my bus. I know of which I speak(this time :-).
The tag & steer 630259(GY 1R11-244) are mae west, 10″ dia, 8″ min, and 22″ max. The drive axle 630104(GY 1R11-088) are double flare, 10″ dia, 8″ min, 18″ max.
Prevost tried to sell me double flare 630260(GY 1R11-243) bags for the front/steer. That’s what I took off the steer. They wouldn’t raise the bus above normal travel heigth. My bus only weighs 13,100 Lbs up frt so weight isn’t a problem. Thank goodness I listened to the dues paying members here instead and went with the mae west 630259. Now bus rides smoother and will raise an additional 4″ for those unlevel campsites.

Here’s what my air bags look like uninstalled. All 8 airbags get set at the same travel height regardless of their dimension empty or full.

The 1 on the left is the mae west 630259, the 2 on the right are the double flare 630104.

There are air bags that the rubber itself is banded or pinched in the middle and looks like the Michelin man, and that is what I was thinking, and you were talkling about the “piston” which when installed is never seen.

I am surprised (or maybe not given the Prevost history) that they are still screwing up and trying to deliver the 260 air bags when the 259 is the needed one.

We went through hell many years ago when Prevost started to consolidate variations to reduce their needed inventory or number of air bag vairations. After arguing for months we thought we had Prevost convinced they had transposed the 259 and 260 numbers. At a POG rally in Oklahoma City it all came to a head and the Prevost reps were finally convinced of the error and we thought the issue was resolved. Apparently not.

Now I am thinking the same screw up type may be alive and well regarding the connectors or couplings for the charge air system in which Prevost again screwed up and was calling for the organge (high temp) couplings on the cold side and the blue (low temp) couplings on the cold side of the CAC system.

Question for lonestarace (and anyone else who can comment)… I just called Prevost and queried the parts guy about airpags for the drive and tag axles. He took our VIN and said we would need six #630104, all the same. I remembered this thread and I’m curious now, because lonestarace put a different # bag on his tag. So, would like to hear some advice.

Also, the parts guy I talked to indicated the airbags would not go on sale promotion till May. At the current regular price of $175.31 per bag, how much savings have others experienced when buying on sale?

This is what I put on our bus, a 96 Liberty 40’XL, S-5665: 4 of the #630104 for the drive axle, and 4 of the #630259, two each for the steer and tag axles.

By the time I paid Prevost the shipping and tax the cost was $180 each a couple of mths ago.

Don, thanks for the info. After my previous post about the parts dept guy saying I would need six 630104 airbags and that they would not be on sale till May, I called later in the day and got a different parts guy who gave me the correct info (mirroring what you have advised) and also that they would go on sale April 1st. This morning Linda called and ordered four 630104 bags (regular price $194, sale price $138) and two 630259 bags (regular price $173, sale price $123).

Report on my airbags. Completed installation on drive and tag axles (did the fronts last year) and for the last 48 hours the bus has remained at the same height and level with no “leans”. Special thanks to Jon and his advice on jacks and screws, worked great. 40′ bus was jacked up in the 35′ concrete driveway in front of the house for the past week and no sign of the code enforcement people, but I had a story all ready, something about trying to retrieve kittens hiding in the undercarriage. God bless my patient and kind neighbors.
