“Ok, so how do you know it’s time to replace the front shocks? This is a learning experience for me. I’m been on a couple of roads where it felt like I was on the end of a diving board. Up goes the front end and both my feet come off the floor. I called prior owner, who bought a 09 when I bought this 2001, he couldn’t really compare because the front ends are different. I don’t have any external indications like oil leaks, etc.”

Mine felt like it was about to turn over when I went around a curve just a little too fast.. I took it in for shocks and it made all of the difference in the world. One of my entertainer contacts told me they change shocks every 75,000 miles. For most of them that is every 10 months or so. Ride is very important to them because they have 12 people sleeping back there for many of the miles they drive.

If the coach has a lot of rebound you can be sure the shocks need to be replaced.

Their purpose is to dampen the up and down bobbing we get when we hit a depression in the highway that makes the front almost bottom out, and then seem to go to its upper limit as it responds to the depression.

Obviously if the shock is coverd with oil that is the obvious clue.

If you have the tools and can reach the end of a shock (without getting under the coach unless it is blocked up) loosen one end, pull it from the stud and move the shock in and out. If it moves with little or no resistance the shock is no good.
