Loose Toilet Seat
Looking for a way to tighten up our loose toilet seat… there is no access to bolts from underneath the toilet like in a house… surely you don’t have to remove the toilet to do this??? Yikes !!

Is it a Microphor? We changed the seat on ours and had to access the bolts from inside the tank portion.

On our Vantare with Headhunter…had to remove toilet to change seat…hope Liberty is different. Geo.

It is not. Liberty trims off the space behind the toilet and the only way to get at the seat fasteners is to move the toilet away from the trim that blocks access.

So moving toilet away from wall is a job for Jeff right? Not for me?

You could get it started at home, not be able to finish it, and then let Jeff and the Eagle Scouts finish it when you get to Vonore. 😉

If you are lucky remove the floor attach bolts and see if you can get enough movement. There might be just enough to let you get at the seat bolts. The supply and waste connections have some flexibility.

So let me get this straight, if you have a Liberty and need to remove the toilet seat, you have to move or remove the entire toilet!

I have had to tighten mine several times. Where the seat bolts attach is a cover to flip up and a straight edge screwdriver fits into the top of a plastic bolt. Turn until tight, push cover back down, done.

Sounds like the Liberty guy’s have a dedicated toilet tool box with wrenches, spare parts, instruction manuals for keeping them working.
What color latex do you wear ?

Reading this thread I couldn’t remember how mine worked but I was becoming paranoid reading the Liberty procedures so I checked it out today. I have to close the lid and use a flat head screwdriver. The KISS theory works fine for me.
Al, is that tool box standard or part of an option package?

I did tighten it from the top as Karl (thanks) suggested…it was loose to the point that I thought I would have to hold the bolts to tighten it up… in the back of my mind I was wanting to change it out for the newer auto or soft close seat and when it got really loose I thought that would be the time to address doing just that… however was happy enough to have it tightened up and it is still like new… we have an access panel on the back wall that I think I may be able to reach down to the bolts but haven’t checked out that possibility yet… just happy to have it tight for now.
FYI … our Vantare seat had no access either… so def not a Liberty only problem !!!

Well… the seat kept getting loose for some reason and I wanted a “soft close”. seat anyway.. so went on a search for and elonagated biscuit colored seat that would fit properly… and was dreading the changeout.
I bought the first one at Lowes “Church” brand but it was too short even though it was elongated the front of the seat was squared off not pointed like I needed, so I ended up at Morrison Supply and got a Biscuit colored Kohler seat that is a perfect fit and also changeable from the top in the future… it just snaps into the installed brackets once installed.
Installation was a piece of cake…. there is a trim piece on each side of the back of the toilet that you remove and with a special made tool to hold the bolts in place it was a simple job… no need to remove the toilet !! Long arms are a big help… my guru guy did it in 15 mins!! The access pieces made it possible…. so folks… Liberty didn’t screw things up with there installation after all.
The soft quiet close feature is really great too.
