Looking for my prevost
Posted by George on June 17, 2014 at 7:35 pmHello all, any thought on a 1999 xl vision? I been looking for a liberty and and came across this vision that I can’t seem to let go. The look, the style inside and of course the price keep drawing me back. My wife wants slides and likes XL11 so I am starting out on a lime if I purchase the vision. HELP! I know I should get the liberty but the vision, not the one in my head, just has me hocked I need to just change some miner interior items, but coach seem to have been maintained. Yes I will get it inspected, just need the forms view on vision coach. Thanks for the help

Welcome George… There are a few Vision owners, so hopefully someone will jump in here. I don’t recall hearing anything bad about them.

Thank you both for your response. The coach is listed on prevost stuff, check it out, your opinion is of great vallue.

George, wow, looked at the ’99 non-slide coach that you mentioned. It is amazing how much room there is when there are no slides as far as roof height and the clean line of the cabinets. That coach sure looks sharp and the price is amazingly reasonable. I would certainly prefer a Prevost chassis coach than a newer plastic coach.
Good luck,
MM.

George that Bus has caught our attention too. The draw back for us is the open bathroom. We want a floor plan with a private head. No doubt she photographs well though!

No question on the plastic coach. The open look and price are attractive, but the wife wants slides. This coach has what I want but, my wife wants slides. The choice that I must make is this coach or my wife. Hum! Of course the coach ?$8 I mean my wife. Thank god she doesn’t post.

Here are things to discuss with a wife who wants slides……….
Slides do one thing. They increase the amount of space for you to walk. If the distance between the two sofas or the counter top and the table is 30″, a slide increases that to about 60″. Now you know the entire benefit of slides. So if your priority in the coach is to walk back and forth a lot, or dance, by all means get slides.
But there is a cost associated with slides. They are an expense, both in the initial purchase price, but in the ongoing maintenance. It doesn’t matter who built the slides, what coach they are on, slides are mechanical devices and there will come a time they will require a repair, or a seal replacement or some type of service.
Slides take up room. We all like to carry way too much stuff in our coaches. We over pack. Having slides is an automatic space limiting feature to cut down on storage space. Each side of a slide takes up space for the mechanism and the trim and if we assume that is about 9″ per side, per slide you will lose about 3 feet of space along one side of the coach on a two slide coach. That is a nice sized closet or space for a washer and dryer, or maybe a pantry. But slides not only take away useable space inside the coach. Usually the slide structure compromises the available bay space because the structure and mechanism has to go somewhere. That means the storage below is also less than in a comparable non-slide coach.
Then there is that weight issue. Slides add weight. Weight increases fuel consumption and cuts down on performance. There is nothing good about adding weight.
If you are going to discuss the slide issue with your wife the reality is how you use the coach will dictate if you will benefit from slides or if they are unnecessary. If you use the coach as a 2nd home, and have a place you like to go for extended periods of time there is no doubt having that extra inside width makes the livability of the coach much nicer. But if your intent is to travel in the coach, rarely spending more than a day or two in any one location, slides really are not going to add much to your enjoyment of the coach. Usually when the coach is used to visit new locations you are not sitting in the coach watching re-runs of Law and Order. You are out and away visiting landmarks and you return to the coach to sleep.
That’s my story and I am sticking to it.

Thank Jon Coming for a person that has both slides and non slides, advise given will weigh heavy. I believe I will try and make a deal, for that coach fits my need and I love the rivet look. I will order inspection and, if the out come is +,I will fly there for my inspection per your older post on that subject. The coach and my wife decortive idea it will fit us. Thanks again to all.

in case you haven’t seen it, Olympia Luxury Coach has a 1996 Marathon XL 45 ft with a side aisle, enclosed bath.
-
And as long as we are spending George’s money, ebay has a rare 1999 Marathon with OTR.

George, The Vision you are looking at is very nice and nicer at a better price than the one on Phil Cooper, especially if the maintainance checks out. That being said, you might want to check out a ’98 Vogue(featherlite) on Phil’s site and compare apples to apples etc. It’s one hell of a price on the face of it. Geo

BTW, George, in case you don’t know my current coach is a 2 slide coach, pervious two were non slide. The coach that works best for you is what you need.

Slides are undoubtably a very personal item… I wouldn’t have a coach without slides as we often have overnight company onboard with us and we would be falling all over each other… the extra room make all the difference in the world to me…. even just the two of us sitting around the feeling is great… we went from 4 slides down to 2 slides and because we have an H there wasn’t such a huge loss in our eyes as the H feels much bigger inside than the XL.
If I had to be without slides I would have to have an H for that very reason. All Prevosts are wonderful and our personal tastes and desires are what make us interesting to one another… no-one is better than the other !!
We are getting our 1998 H3-45 double slide Vantare with many upgrades ready to list one here shortly should anyone have an interest. It will make someone a great coach !!
Cheers,
Diane

I am looking for a coach, too, and I don’t know what a Vision is, but that thing is really cool, inside and out. Has it been remodeled? It looks pretty contemporary to me.
I have little to contribute to the forum, other than to whine about the buying process. And I think I irritated the “non slide crowd” in another thread. But the comments on slide vs. non slide are instructive, hence my daily lurking.
Maybe one day I’ll get a Prevost and I will have something to contribute. I just hope my contribution is not limited to “Don’t do what I did,” or “If I knew then what I know now,” or “Got the bus, but no money for fuel.”
