  • LOOKING FOR HELP ON SIDE WINDOW REPLACEMENT

Posted by joel on March 26, 2018 at 3:42 pm

I own a 1999 (X-6872) Liberty conversion and would like to replace one of my right side fixed windows with the earlier style bypass (not awning) style window. The bypass window is supposedly available with about a 6 week build time.

Here’s the rub. Parts says my coach is equipped with a 28% window tint and the new window shows as 9% tint. Obviously, I could have an aftermarket tint installed, but I would much rather have the window built (it has to be built anyway) with glass matching my coach. Parts says no…is there anybody’s arm I could twist?

Some times I just can’t understand manufacturing or the people in charge of it.

Why would you contract to build a part for a coach with certain specifications that are different from the original specifications with multiple parts like windows that visually have to match.

Updated parts that take the place of older outdated parts but have newer technologies but are no different visually I can understand.

From a manufacturer’s perspective there are certain problems with supporting the product we have.

Production is limited (the volume of coaches built is really small) so there is little financial justification to support parts that may never be needed in the future.

The product is aimed at the commercial market and is expected to be worn out after a certain number of years.

The motorhome conversion side of the business is a very small part of a very small business so it makes product support less justified.

The people crunching the numbers and deciding inventory levels, costs to retain tooling (Prevost owned or supplier owned), and costs to stock product specific spares are not emotionally attached to the product.

The company owner (Volvo) is in business to make money and is forcing Prevost management to provide strong returns on the investment.

There is no single converter or service facility that specializes in Prevost motorhome conversions willing to purchase inventory to support the coach for the decades of its life. Unlike the commercial versions the life of our conversions is going to be many years more of life and we are now seeing the costs of some parts to be so expensive it might make sense to send the coach to the scrap yard.

You might want to try Vision Rv. They have a web site.

My experience with Visone is that they are very proud of their parts. Last time I spoke with them they didn’t have a good one and, if they did, it would probably be a 9% tint.

I can understand Volvo’s position, however, it’s occasionally been my experience when you go above entry level personnel, you can sometimes get something special.

What I’m looking for is a contact name at Prevost above the parts counter level who may be able to facilitate.

This might not help, Joel but when I don’t get satisfaction at the level I start with I ask the person I am speaking to who the supervisor is and if I can speak to that person. I just keep going up the food chain until I either get what I want or realize I am not getting anywhere.

I think Rom Beverly might be a good starting point:
