Looking for details on a 1998 Liberty Classic XL45
I am new to the Prevost Community and am in the process of looking at a couple coaches as my first Prevost.
Came across a 1998 Prevost Liberty Classic Lady XL 45 and wanted to check to see if anyone on the forums recognized the coach and could possible provide some specifics on it.The coach is currently located in Texas at a dealer, but the description is a little confusing in terms of power train. It’s listed with a S60 470HP and Allison 5 speed. Looking to see if the transmission is correct, or if it’s a mistake on the ad and it’s really a 6 speed.
Also, if anyone knows this bus personally, please feel free to contact me privatly, would love to get some history on it.
I have some questions in with the dealer as well as with Liberty, but any other information would be helpful.

I seriously doubt if that year coach had a 5 speed. More than likely a typo.

This Liberty is at Mr. Olivers in Texas. Charles is buying his first Prevost, we’ve all been there, so if anyone has an info on this Liberty, please post or contact Charles direct.

There actually were a few early S60’s equipped with 5 speeds, but it would probably be a 1994-96 chassis which is possible.

Last letter in vin and last 4 ## will tell you allot of info here— off the wall reason for this in that particular time year set.. Ck size of 60 serries—-sure 98 is conversion year—Mfg year of prevost shell?? Prob all great–looks beautiful!. Ck tire date codes. for old tires. look new could be 5 yrs old and on their way out. There is a list somewhere here on board or maybe someone knows bus personal. Bob

Talked with the dealer today. Turns out the text on the website is pretty much incorrect. it’s a 6 speed.
If anyone know the coach personally or through aquintances, I would be appreciative for any further details.
It’s seems like a very nice coach inside and out, hopefully will get a chance to look at it in person the first week in December.

I don’t know the history of the coach, but my initial reaction from the photos is that the coach is in pretty nice shape. What is important for you is to look at it in person and if you are serious do your homework. In the articles section on this site there are various articles relating to pre-trip or pre-purchase inspections. Using the photos as a guide and the articles create a detailed list of things you as a buyer are going to look at.
Take a broad swipe at things because if you decide you like the coach enough to buy it, you can make the exchange of money subject to a very detailed inspection (and training session) that might take two days.
Photos won’t show odors or evidence of poor care or quality care. You can only get that information in person.
I look for the big stuff first. Tire date codes, battery date codes and condition, I operate all AC units and look for the temperature spread between supply and return air temps, and I look for wet spots. (Oil, water, fuel, etc.) I look for active codes which you should be able to get with a test run and a salesman showing you how to pull up the codes. (He will know, because that dealer has a lot of experience with Prevost coaches)

Tom’s right, although I did ask for more details on the 99 at Legacy. The one at MrOlivers seems to fit me and my wife’s personalities, tasts and needs a little better.
Had a good long phone call with Tom at MrOlivers yesterday and will be calling back Monday to try to setup a pre-purchase inspection as well as try to get an idea on an onsite visit after the Thanksgiving holiday and before I need to go to Romania for work mid December.
