Local channels / cable access analog or digital?
I have a question regarding local cable on most campgrounds. I have a Dish networks VIP211k satellite receiver with the local cable coax routed to the “over the air/digital cable” input on the receiver in addition to the satellite input. I have not been able to get local cable channels except in one high-end park in Las Vegas. Are most parks still using analog cable TV?
If so how do you deal with analog vs digital local cable? Do I need an option to bypass the digital cable tuner in the VIP211K and directly go to the TV tuner in case the RV park cable signal is analog?

Good question… I know with my TV, once I hook to cable I have to do the Auto Search and sometimes the channels are digital and other times analog, maybe even both, not sure.

I put a cable switch that has two “IN’s” and one “OUT”. I feed the “IN’s” with roof top off the air antenna and campground cable. Then feed the TV directly from the “OUT” on the switch. I then use whichever input gets the most channels.
On a slightly related note, I have LED TV’s in the front and rear of the bus. They are differnet make and models and for whatever reason they do not tune in the same number of channels. The newest TV is in the front and always finds more digital and analog stations when I do a search.

Andre, your setup would seem to be the most flexible way to go. Unfortunately, in our coach the coax running to the front TV has been repurposed as an HDMI over coax extension and both the DVD player and the satellite receiver run through an HDMI switch to the TVs. It is a nice clean setup but the sat receiver is not doing a great job with the local cable input.
I just might hook up the stateroom TV tuner the way you suggest. That way at least on of the TVs would get campground cable.

I have Dish network – one hopper and one joey. This is what you can do to get Dish network to change your local channels as you travel around the country in your coach. My buddy suggested this procedure to me and it works GREAT!
1. Login into your dish network account at mydish.com on the internet.
2. Go to “Chat Now” and select “MyDish.com Account”
3, Type in this statement – Hello, my name is ??????, my Dish Account number is ???????, my password is ????; and, I am traveling in a mobile travel trailer and would like your help in changing my SERVICE address to (put your full campground address here) – so that I may watch the “local channels.” THANK YOU VERY MUCH!You do NOT have to talk to anyone and the service rep. makes the change for you – it takes 15 to 30 minutes for them to send the signal to your equipment.

Yes, I have direct and can have my local stations changed by zip code, but couldn’t do it as long as I had my residence. Once we sold our house and canceled everything except the Coach Receiver, no problem. If you have multiple receivers in your house and Coach, they won’t do it.
Dish was much easier to deal with regarding the local channel changes with no problem.

We have never had a problem with DirecTv… we have 2 boxes at our residence and 1 in the coach… we call customer service and give them the zip code where we are currently staying and they make the change so we can view local channels… we did have to pay an extra sports fee once in Tennesse… when we return to our residence we call give them the zip code and they switch us back to the local channels

You are correct, I forgot to mention we had to leave the house Direct as is because our son was at the house and needed TV, that’s why they wouldn’t let me change the location at the bus because those receivers then wouldn’t be active. They explained there can only be one location for the account.
