Liberty XL waste tanks
Posted by Clint on December 28, 2022 at 4:02 pmJust confirming that all Liberty XL conversions used aluminum waste tanks and that it’s a given – they will all leak and need replacing with stainless. I’m looking at two different XLs 99/00 both with original holding tanks.
Is a stainless tank +/- $5000?

Hmmm, interesting. I always thought XL2 was when they changed from aluminum to stainless.

Jeff Rowe at East Tennessee Luxury Coach told me our 99 Liberty has a stainless steel holding tank and IIRC a SS fresh water tank. Check with Jeff or determine the Liberty build number and call Liberty in Stuart, FL; I think they can tell you want it is from their records.
Jeff has a source to build the stainless steel tanks and IIRC it was south of $5,000 that you mention. I saw a holding tank replacement at ETLC once (can’t remember who did the conversion). I’m thinking that in addition to replacing the holding tank they updated all the plumbing they could get to. Again Jeff can tell you what the cost to switch is if you need to.

I had removed my tank when it started leaking. Took it to a local manufacturer and they copied my tank in 16 Guage stainless, double welded and pressure tested for under a grand, in a day! I replaced all the existing drain pipes as well. While I had the water bay apart, I replaced the water heater too.

Under $1,0000 materials and labor, in one day for a new tank? Those days are long gone.

My Liberty is abby normal (for a Liberty). It has 3 tanks and no interconnect of gray and black. It has 2 blade/dump valves.
The fresh water and gray water tanks are translucent plastic, and built to fit the erea they are in. They each have polished ss covers. The black tank is metal. I’m not certain if it’s ss or aluminum?
The plastic tanks will outlive the bus. If the metal tank fails i’ll search hi and low to have a plastic replacement made.
