Liberty Waste Tank Questions
I have a 2000 Liberty XL (99 chassis) My coach has the original waste tank in it. The previous owner, and me as well, always rinse the tank out after use. It is not leaking. My questions are, were all the aluminum tanks subject to leaking? Is there any particular place that they traditionally leak? I have read that a common place for failure is around the dump nipple, I’m hoping that if this is a problem for my vintage of coach that I can inspect and determine if replacing the tank is something that I should place high on my to do list or if it can wait. We are travelling from Ontario to Scottsdale in January for the Barrett Jackson auction and I sure wouldn’t want a leak or failure then. Thanks in advance for all advice.

When I replaced mine, all the nipples were affected! It was leaking around the 4 inch and the 2 inch macerator nipples, but all of them showed signs of corrosion.

What Dana said. Aluminum is highly reactive to high and low Ph so you can rinse until the bovines arrive back home and it is going to corrode.
The drain connections are always up off the tank floor by no less than the thickness of stock or maybe even a little more so you can delay the inevitable replacement by tipping the coach as it is drained to get almost everything out of the bottom and then running a lot of clear water through it to flush the bottom clean as possible.
My tank was about 6 years old when I replaced it and one fitting had already been repaired or replaced. The other large fitting had about 1/8″ of material left before it would have failed and flooded the bay.

I don’t think it is a secret and usually I won’t say anything but Liberty tanks can be replaced with stainless steel ones at ETLC.
The fact I don’t want to push that is because my daughter’s factory makes the tanks for ETLC and I don’t want anyone thinking I am pushing business her way. I stay out of the situation, I don’t know what she charges, if she sells to other than Jeff at ETLC, or what ETLC charges.
My reason for my comments on aluminum tanks is simple. Our factory made a large number of products for the plumbing industry and I am unaware of ANY product in contact with fresh water or waste water made of aluminum because it is very reactive.

2 of my 3 holding tanks are made of semitransparent plastic. When and if my metal tank starts leaking, I’ll replace it with a plastic one. There’s a company in SAT that can/will make whatever.

That’s interesting that a Liberty would have plastic tanks, and even more interesting that it would have 3.

I took my old tank to a local metal shop and told them what I wanted.
They copied my tank configuration but out of stainless steel. I removed and replaced it myself and saved a bunch, but I have the space and tools to do it. Plus I had the time to do it.

That’s strange Don, I had two Liberty’s a 94 and an 01 and no plastic, single waste/grey and 1 water.

Ted Lange had the (I think) plastic holding tank on his coach replaced by a truck shop in Winona, Minnesota. He said the price was reasonable and I think he had it done in stainless steel. I’ve tried to get him on the PC Forum … not sure he’s signed up yet.

I thought the rose pedals in the Liberty’s were sucked up against any leaks/holes in the tank to self seal them.

God, I know I’m going to regret asking this…
What’s the history of the Liberty Coach “rose petal dispenser” talk around here? I only ask because I have a switch next to my Raritan flush/fill switch that is labeled “Aqua Kem.” It looks like it uses a windshield washer tank and pump to spray Aqua Kem into the holding tank from the top. It’s not working now, but shouldn’t be too tough to get going. Worth fixing?

Where can you get a replacement waste water tank. Our 2000 Lady Liberty Classic has its original RDS 59101 tank and it needs to be replaced.

I highly recommend East Tennessee Luxury Coach (ETLC). Jeff is on here regularly and does excellent work. I haven’t had mine replaced, YET. But, it is moving up my priorities list.
