Liberty 05 “H” Gen Battery
I’m helping Gary C out…. We’re going to do new Lifeline’s and Liberty couldn’t be sure if the gen battery is group 24 or group 31. Seems that year could have either. Gary isn’t up to removing a panel, so anyone else out there with an 05 Liberty H that could shed some light?

Not 100% but I believe it is the 24…

I agree with Jeff. I went with an Optima so I am not sure they are exactly the same size or ratings as conventional batteries. I just did not want a battery venting gas in my electrical compartment which is why I went with the Optima. I bet Lifeline has an AGM that would work as a generator start battery as well.

On second thought, Liberty replaced all the batteries 4 years ago when I bought the bus, maybe they have a record of what group the generator battery was maybe they know? Gary

I’ll talk to Jon about his defection from Lifeline. Lifeline AGM’s are sealed, no worry.
The reason we’re trying to nail this down is the group 31 is about 1.5″ longer than a group 24, so we want to make sure the battery fits the battery box.

I was not aware at the time I bought the Optima that Lifeline made starting batteries. I have not yet replaced the generator start battery in the present coach, but now that I have been chastized it appears I will be obligated to make sure it is Lifeline.

I had a start issue with our generator while in Florida in the spring 2011. Marathon service center at San Antonio recommended replacing the defective original battery with a Lifeline.
I recall the compartment was slightly remodeled for fit.

Tom, This is what I will do, and I beleive it will work since you will not order the batteries till April so I can get the discount, I will have Prevost check the battery when I am in service for the slide on March 6th, and then you will know what group the generator battery is when you order them and you can send them down to J-ville and I will stop on my way back to have them installed mid April, Is that a plan that will work? gary

If it’s a group 31 it is way bigger than needed. Even a Group 24 is overkill. Of course, when a battery hasn’t been used and is drained a bit, a little more battery than is needed is always a good idea. Going smaller than a group 24 means you’ll pay more too. Most batteries smaller than 24 are motorcycle or speciality batteries. As a general rule a starting battery should have at least 3 times the horsepower of the engine in Cold Cranking Amps.
