ok, I have a trucker atlas, but i can’t read it at 62 mph!
I can glance at a screen going down the road.
The speed limit indicator on Google maps is a welcome addition. I’m surprised with as many trucks and rvs on the road they have not added features for weight and height. That would really seal the deal.
In the interest of full disclosure, I drive faster than than 62. I know this because I passed Jon on I-75 once upon a time. It took five miles to get around him but I did it!

Garmin has a new unit out that is tablet based with a dash mounted docking station. I have one now and will be using it in the next few days. So far it appears to be a great unit.

It doesn’t take long for cream to rise to the top. And this is especially true when one considers the instructional brilliance of Chuck and Buddy!
CoPilot is an excellent GPS and they do a super job of listening to their users. Three months ago I complained to them that the MPH number was too small. I was obviously not the only one because I just downloaded the new update and the MPH is much larger. They have a CoPilot for RV and for Truckers. And because of their off line maps, you don’t find yourself entering a major city and have the GPS decide to update itself. The truckers version is really something as well and many large trucking companies and delivery companies have endorsed them.
I often sit back and wonder how Chuck and Buddy ever got so smart? I understand Buddy with all his time with Jeff… As for Chuck, it comes to him naturally!

I loaded the CoPilot app to hit an up coming trip in the 2 week trial widow.
Needed a 2 way point trip. Took 20 minutes and it finally found the first way point, which is a campground right off I-95 but it was not in the campground POI group it was buried deep. It never found Ft. Wilderness campground for goodness sake.
Adding way points by, state, city, address was one of my pet peeves regarding the Rand McNally. I expected a quick look-up using the business name from a modern app. The early 90’s POI way of doing things has changed significantly and Google maps really broke that norm for the GPS business. First impressions not all that great.
I’ll let it run on the trip down and give it a chance.

CoPilot does have a learning curve but not to bad. As a cheat if I can’t find an exact location, I will use the address next door or across the street (as an example – if camp ground xyz is on the left of the street and not listed on CoPilot, I will put in the address of the Wendy’s restaurant across the street). You get the same results, just have to remember to turn left and not right at you destination point.

I don’t mind the learning curve. I just hate clunky. There are some things I like about technology advances.
That said don’t make me control a light bulb with a computer. I’ll take the added weight of a few pounds of copper for hard wired switches. Multi-plex is not my thing.

Hi Joe, It can be a bit “clunky” and I’m not happy at that either. They have done a good job of listening to user comments over the years and it gets a better with each update. I hope it works for you, nothing better than a GPS you can count on…

Have been using it for a year with mixed results. It has actually taken me through housing areas with bridges that are weight restricted at 5-tons. Thankfully, wasn’t towing anything and backed up using the camera system about 1/4 mile. I actually use the Garmin and Google Maps. I think there’d be a huge market for something integrated.
