Jeff, I have done quite a bit of reading up on LED conversions with regard to Automotive space, and found some interesting info. On the back of my Bus I have Red, Amber and White Lenses so trying to optimize what i do. There are many studies and experiments done with LED conversions and it seems a little mixed regarding the Colors. Did you try swapping white in also? Here is what i have found:
Red Lens:
Red LED = Pure red color, not as bright (Most like this approach as it gives the best color)
White LED = Brighter, but more pink in color
Amber Lens:
Amber/Yellow LED = Best Yellow, not as bright (Most like this approach as it gives the best color)
White LED = Brighter, but washed out amber in color
Clear Lens (backup):
White LED = Only Choice.
When they state “Not as bright” they are still much brighter than Incandescent

Thats interesting and makes sense. Its been awhile but i recall that with red everywhere the brake and tail had no distinction. Matching the bulb color with the lens color on the signals (brake and turn)seemed seemed to give the best results (boldest) White in the tail seemed to tone them down. Like you said, the projector bulbs made a huge difference. I was,so happy that i didnt feel the for additional testing and tweaking.

Has anyone looked at or used this web site for LED’s? I am replacing all of the interior Halogen puck lights with LED lights. I sent a picture of the current halogen to M4 and was advised to use this as the replacement:

I recommend replacing the entire fixture. I replaced 20 some ceiling lights with the 3″ (really about 3 1/4″) Falcon LED lights from Amazon.

Do a search on the site for posts about making this update. We had the old halogen fixtures with the the circular LED’s you mention. They work OK but you still have the outdated fixture and they don’t put out nearly the light that the Falcon’s do. I posted a couple of pictures on the site somewhere with before and after.

28 new LED Bulbs in the back, I even made new Washers. These go under the screw head and between the fixture and Frame.

The Old Washers were crumbly to say the least.

Which LED bulbs did you end up going with?
Your tail lights look great! What did you use to polish them.
Did you take any before and after photos of the lights?

It didn’t take very long at all, Here are my Steps:
1) Wash and dry
2) Wet Sand with 3000 Silicon Carbide paper
3) Orbital Polish with Ultra Cutting Creme and a foam pad

Luc, the washer diameter is not critical, you can cut them with scissors. They can be square if you want. The purpose of this washer is to retain the screw so it doesn’t drop on the ground when you remove the lens.

Thanks for the clarification.
I wondered if it was to keep water from coming in along the screw into the taillight lens. I did measure mine, seems like 1/2″ OD and 1/8″ ID.
