Jim, I had to remove the pot metal reflectors from my fixtures in order to fit the disk shaped LEDs with side pins in them. I actually had to crack the plastic fixture to get the reflector out, so I knew when I did it that there was no going back to halogens. The heat from the diodes is so much less than from the halogens that the reflectors are not needed. I’ve had no problems whatsoever. I replaced about 45 of them.

I didn’t remove the reflectors or lens covers on my horizontal mounts. The reflectors aren’t necessary with the discs as all LEDs are facing down.

Thanks for the info. looks like the pot metal holds the part that the light plugs into did you have to silicone it in place because it is able to move or is that ok. Thanks Jim

Jim, on mine the reflectors were attached to the plastic housing by two metal tabs extending from the back of the reflectors through an opening in the plastic housing. That is the plastic part I had to break to get them loose. The reflectors were completely separate from the socket that the lamp plugs in to, which remained fixed to the plastic housing after the reflector was removed. Remove the screws and pull one down from the ceiling to see the backside if you haven’t already.

Dumb question – I’m machanically inclined and the trim discs on the recessed lights have me stumpted. How do you remove them without breakage? They look like they should twist off, but havent been successful yet.

Some are spring loaded. On my previous coach I just pulled hard and the assembly came out. I am not familiar with other methods.

I have had the same issue with some of mine. Went to an auto parts place and bought a rubber strapped oill filter wrench and removed the hard ones with that. The do twist off.

Mine have lens covers and the cover and trim ring come off by turning the trim ring. Some were very hard to remove due to heat deformity from the original bulbs.
