LED Progress Report
Finally received my back pin LED order with extended pins. It has been a frustrating experience dealing direct with the Chinese. Original order lacked the extended pins then took about 3 weeks to receive the correct lights. Communication with them was a nightmare. In the long run it all worked out and hopefully I have broke the ice and others should have an easier time of it since they now seem to understand the extended pin need. I’ll have more information shortly on how to order and assure the right lights are sent.
Mine have 3/4″ usable pins. The pins are slightly longer than that, but with the little components on theback of the light, you end up with 3/4″. I ordered warm white equivalent to the G4 20w halogen.
They fit nice and flush with the bottom of your light.
I also ordered the MR11 bulbs for the vanities.
What a difference in DC amps. I turned on every light in the bus, 35 and didn’t exceed 10 amps on the inverter panel. The only downside is they are not dimable. The total cost for 40 extended pins and 5 of the MR11 was 248.00.

I received my LED bulbs from China today and was going to start a new thread until I saw yours. I will add my information here.
I ordered mine from eBay on February 24th and they arrived in Ohio March 12th. That’s not too bad from China. My brother forwarded them to me in Mississippi with my regular mail shipment.
I paid for 100 and they actually sent 101. There were two with bent pins but they work fine once straightened out.
We replaced 21 bulbs this evening. Some of the fixtures still had halogen bulbs and these LEDs are even brighter than the halogens. Somebody had mentioned that in a previous thread but I know it is true for myself.
The real difference is in comparing these to the bright while LEDs I purchased several months ago. They are very dim compared to these new ones. Here is a picture with three bright whites

Why did you go with the disc vs the post lights? Do you know if their is any lighting characteristic differences?
Has anyone had experience with dimmables? (I’ve had bad luck with “dimmable LEDs” in my home.) Would they be compatible with tech-link? I know that the dimming capabilities of an LED is not the same as halogen, but I think it would be nice to be be able to dim in the salon area.

The LEDs I purchased are not capable of dimming. However in six years of ownership we have never ONCE used the lights on dim so that is fine with us.

Are you sure these bulbs are not dimmable? the ones I ordered are all dimmable in our 04 Marathon XL2. Work great and very bright.

I just checked again. They might dim slightly on the second position but I do not think so. I will check after dark.

Yes they are the same bulbs I bought and installed in our Marathon they are dimmable. Check your controller function there maybe an issue there.

They were dimming fine with halogens. I will check when it is dark and the difference may be more pronounced. As I said, it makes no difference to me since we have NEVER used them on dim one time. I do want to make sure I am giving accurate information though. Thanks for the correction.

I had Marathon Tampa switch us over to LEDs…. ours do dim they had to adjust the program on the Tech link and added a “chip” to the tech link modules that control those zones… the Tech said something about how the LED start up power requirements are different that the Halogens… We had some issues with the LED quality but Marathon replaced them and all is bright and cool with us.

I think this is going to be my answer to the halogen replacement light with LEDs.
They are 12 volt, 5500 Kelvin white light 3″ diameter, 11/2″ deep 7 amps at .89 watts.
They have a frosted glass lense that unscrews and the light can be installed using the spring loaded clips or can be screwed in like the original lights I have now.
Bought them direct from the distributor. Don’t know if he will sell to anyone but can find out.
Ordered 35 @ $14.58 each. $400 at Camping World. Same light as in their catalog. Does not say anything about dimability but I don’t care about that.

We tried dimming ours tonight with no other lights on. There might be a slight dimming so maybe these bulbs are able to dim.

Guys, there are a couple of different ways to dim a light.
The old way uses a variable resistor and usually has a knob that you turn or a slide switch. They work fine with incandescent light bulbs but not so with LEDs.
The “modern” dimmer is a PWM, pulse width modulated, dimmer. They are the kind where you hold down a button and the controller steps down the dimming. The PWM dimmers are required for LEDs that are designed to work with them. Most multiplex systems that I am aware of utilize PWM.
If you try to use “dimable” LEDs with the old style dimmers, you most certainly will be disappointed. Trying to use non-dimable LEDs on either controller will also be limited.

Charles, I considered a very similar fixture, but thought I’d try the far less expensive route first. I went with the round discs in warmwhite and have been very pleased. It’s nice that our fixtures have frosted lens so you can’t see the somewhat ugly LEDs. I think I have close to 50 fixtures, so 50 times a buck is not bad when compared to 50 times $10+.
They will dim 3 steps; not the six steps our CC will dim with regular bulbs. I’m like most and don’t care about dimming. I’m surprised how many CC owners don’t even know they have dimmers. If I want low light I’ll use the dimmable wall sconces.

Gil you are right. I did not know they dimmed until someone told me.
Since I have a hard time seeing in dim light, I didn’t care about the dimming feature.
I used LED’s like I have seen here but I think I am going to like the new fixtures.
My LED’s have the side pins and I had to bend them just right to make them fit the fixtures without grounding on the fixture houseing.
Let you know how they work.
Will be in Tampa if anybody wants to see them.
