for the do-it yourself type it need not be expensive.. Go to ebay. look up 12 volt led or 12 volt led strip light… G 4 base led try several combo.. superbright supply is great! but is 4 times the price is some cases. I build my own fixtures using g-4 bases. if buying the 5m rolls for under $20 you can cut them as marked pay attention to polarity they are sensative and won’t burn. Also dc or ac 12 volt rating. I use USA shipper only.. I’ll put up a couple pictures:

I replaced all my accent light with strip LEDs. Ten beauty of these now is that they make connectors for the now and you don’t need to solder leads on them anymore. I used the oversea suppliers and have had no problems. I recommend the waterproof one less likely to break one of the LEDs during the install. Make sure you check the number of LEDs some are 300 per 5 meters and others are 600 per 5M.

Bob, are these suitable for lighting that is visible? I have rope lights along some fixtures on the roof and it is not like what you show where the light comes out of a hidden slot. Would these look okay where you actually see the strip or do I need to find LED rope lights?
You can see the rope lights on the ceiling and in the trim across the back of the room.

The strip LEDs would work great there just make sure you get the ones that are waterproof beause they have a coating over them that prevents damage to the LED’s. Also decide if you want 300 LEDs or 600’s Per 5 meters makes a big differences the amount of light.

The led are more flexable and light weight in comparison to rope ligthing. Use what you have until they go bad then go Led and when you do go dimmable. You will probably never replace them again.. No where the amount of mounting hardware involved! Compare size to a piece of fuel line to a elect zip tie.. big size differance. Bob

The ceiling ones in the front lounge don’t work. Don’t know if the strip is bad or just a wire loose. The rear ones have a few lights out. I would like to upgrade them, and also add some lights around my windows and on my steps. I definitely want dimmable. Thanks for the info.

Get a roll and play with them and you will see what i mean. They are cut to length (most have sissor marks) on them where you should cut and you can splice them end to end or splice new pieces in. Really simple when you get into them. Bob
