    Bernie,

You’re plain wrong according to Detroit Diesel.

    Tom,

It’s hard to get respect for truckers when all they can come back with is insults and name-calling!

P.S. I wonder how many truck accidents could have been avoided if the operator had know he could safely use the Jake up to 2,500 RPM!

    Bernie,

I’d rather go with the facts from the authority than from someone who ignores the facts and refuse to get them, and instead rely on “what we’ve always done”. I’m sorry you have to result to insults instead of facts.

I’m not confused at all. Perhaps your lack of knowledge of the DD series 60?

Please allow me to ask for everyone to calm down and to relax.

I have said many times that I have 2 left hands and therefore I do appreciate every comment and advice that members who read my posts do care to answer.

I may not always agree. I may not always understand but I read all of it and try to absorb the information and try to figure out how it may apply to my situation.

So let us all agree to disagree and go on with enjoying our coaches.

    Cheers,

    Ronald

    Ron,

I’m sorry about the thread creep, but I feel it is very important for the forum members to have correct information. Say hi to Gaby from Margrit and I.

    Bernie,

You don’t give up, do you! Despite the fact you are the one that need to learn the basics of a series 60!

    Lets recap Per.

You have a fleet owner of over 500 trucks that disagree.

You have a fleet owner of over 900 trucks that disagree.

You have a very reputable do it yourselfer telling you your wrong and with literature.

You have 2 of the guys that started this website that have more experience than anyone I know disagree with you.

But you know better. That is ignorance I have no more time for.

    I’m out of here.

I put more trust in the info I get from the source, namely Detroit Diesel than anyone you mention. Maybe you ought to try it!

Per, you keep referring to Detroit Diesel as saying 2500 RPM is the acceptable limit and yet I keep finding where 2100 is listed as MAX RPM.

Post a link that shows other than 2100 is not the Max RPM. I am not going to accept the 2500 RPM max Jake brake as a limit unless and until you have a Detroit document that says 2100 is just a suggestion and that you can operate your coach at 2500. Warning you not to exceed 2500 is not a limit. It is a suggestion bad shit is going to happen if you keep abusing your engine.

Perhaps a parallel to your assertion 2500 is OK is that Detroit sets an oil pressure of less than 4 or 5 PSI as the limit at which point the engine shuts down. Just because they won’t shut down the engine until it reaches that low value, it doesn’t mean it is OK to keep driving as long as it is 6 PSI. Or do you interpret that as an OK limit also?

This all has its roots in the fact you want your Jake programmed to drop to 2nd gear, and as it slams down through the gears to get there as fast as possible it is pushing the engine to RPMs in excess of the 2100 RPM max limit.

No need to reply. I am sure some Detroit mechanic told you it is OK to ignore documented limitations and nothing is going to change your mind.

Jon, the manual states 2,100 is the maximum allowable RPM. As it states on the engine placard on the side of the engine, NL RPM limit is 2,250. If 2,100 is the absolute limit, why does the engine placard say 2,250 is acceptable at no load? And why does the manual state 2,500 as do not exceed? The only thing that makes sense is that the 2,100 limit is for the engine while producing power.

And no, I did not talk to some diesel mechanic. I called Detroit Diesel and talked to one of their engineers, and to the best of my knowledge, I am the only one in these two discussion threads to have done so!
