was riding along on a test drive at Prevost Nashville that afternoon after the 3 Axel alignment and to confirm the turbo was all better. Mike the tech says to me so you like to watch your transmission temps closely? I said no, that is the engine temp right? Mike says no, that is the transmission temp the little gear like icon is meant to be the transmission. I’m like really? He said the only engine temp indicator I have is the analogue one on the lower left of the cluster….

So here is the question… is there some type of transmission radiator like thing on the stack of the other stuff near the CAC? When my fan clutch locked up this summer Trans temps (what I thought was engine temps) went way up as I recall 230 or higher… All these years monitoring Trans temps when I would turn on the dash air they would drop to 199 as I pulled 70 out west or whatever….

I think you have a jake so my response may not be correct. My retarder equipped transmission has an intercooler which is a heat exchanger that circulates coolant around transmission fluid lines. In a previous vintage it was a cylinder shape about 8″ in diameter and 18″ long, and in the case of my current coach it is a box shape about 4 X 8 X 18″ long. Both were located on the lower driver side near the front of the engine oil pan. I don’t know how an H is configured in that area so I don’t know if you have any baffling that blocks your view of it.

Your transmission with a jake tracks engine temp closely most of the time, but with a retarder the transmission temp goes up and down over a relatively wide range depending on how hard the retarder is working.

    Bill,

I always had the transmission (gear icon) selected as well, with the A/C on you could always see the lower temp due to the fan running on high. On my pre EGR H, the CAC was stacked to include the transmission cooler.
