If you noticed Mr. Hawkins had this ladder in a compartment of the wrecker he had at ETLC.

I have used this type of ladder for a number of years. It has worked fine, but I treat it with very careful respect. I have two friends that both suffered significant injuries when their telescoping ladder collapsed when they were near the top of the coach. Extend a Step (think this name of the company) has a pro contractor elite model coming in February. It will not be cheap, but it will be heavy duty. I plan to buy one of the first and pitch my flimsy one.

Great ladder to carry, but be very careful checking each rung to be sure it is fully extended and locked.

with a PC recommendation I ordered one and understand the “be careful” warning. I don’t like ladders but sometimes you just have to have them. Important to me is the small storage footprint.

I also had that same collapseable ladder collapse. I will never climb another one. It can also pinch the piss out of your hand while closing it up be careful.

Having a ladder is important, but a straight extension ladder is nowhere near as valuable as one with a step ladder configuration.

We have used the type that has 4 sections and opens into a W configuration, then a trestle shape, a step ladder shape and finally a straight extension ladder shape. I use the step ladder configuration 95% of the time.

In 25 years I have used the straight extension ladder configuration probably a total of 5 times to get on the roof so when buying a ladder give serious thought to how you will use it along with how and where you will store it.
