Kohler Generator – Fault Code
I have had this happen twice – both times starting the generator in 30 degree or colder weather when the generator is cold. It will start and run for approximately 2 minutes and then shut down and throw a OU – over volt code. I have tried resetting the ECU and re-starting the generator which will re-start but shuts down within 20 seconds and throws the code again. Any thoughts?
Other than these two times, the generator has performed as intended.
It is a 20KW Kohler generator in a 2008 Marathon.
I realize the short between the driver’s seat and the start button is likely a contributing factor.

First item to check …all the connections inside the generator mounted black control box.
Push in connectors and crimped wire connections have a history on generators due to continuous vibration.

This is just a wag, but I have had to replace two voltage regulators on my Kohler, one failed allowing over-voltage and one was erratic, shutting the gen down at random times due to low voltage.

Loc, have you tried starting from the gen with remote switch off? Also, assume auto start is off.

Does the vr come pre set or must it be adjusted ?
