Kohler Gen 20KW – Not charging thru Inv #2
Posted by Dorel on May 20, 2024 at 2:47 pmHello, our gen does not show any AC2 voltage on Inv #2.
Inv #1 is at 118V.
Where do I start?
Used to be intimate with the functionality few years back, but after I got it running, have not use it much or if I use it I did not looked at the screens, everything seem normal.
Thank you!

i use dvm at the generator control box check output. have replaced my voltage regulator twice. if you show good voltage at genset and readings are off I also had that issue happen so on my coach back at the battery bank are the transducers and some small sensor wires had to un plug clean and reconnect and that solved the readings being off. hope this info helps you.

Thank you, will take a look this weekend…do you have a Kohler gen?
I believe I replaced the voltage regulator once, not sure, do you have the Kohler part number handy, just in case?

HI mine is power tech. I would think could follow the same trail, any other input from the group.

Check the double pole circuit breaker at the back of the generator. I once had one leg go out because half the breaker failed. When you pull the side panel also check to make sure all the main lead connections are tight.

Thank you Alex, will check…
We use the gen extensively last summer going for service to Prevost/Quebec. A/C module failed and OTR A/C did not work, had to use the Cruise air, good possibility that something got loose from hours of running.

Update:
– checked the regulator and connections = tight, reset both breakers, manually and remote started the gen, no issues.
– remote inverters display show on Inv 1 = 119V and Inv 2 = 0 and no charging
– remote Marathon display on dash shows both Inv 1 and 2 at 119V with amps consumption on Inv 1 and 0 amps consumption on Inv 2.
Breakers should be good but tried to source couple with no luck, here are the numbers:
Top – IULHK11-224-14, 15 Amps, 250V, 50/60HZ, Delay 62, Trip 18.8Amps
Bottom – IALHK11-224-30, 80Amps, 240V, 50/60HZ, Delay 62
Not sure why the Marathon will show a charge but not the inverters?
Any additional input on this is appreciated!
Thank you!

what screen are you looking at generator screen. or main power screen. also i have had one of my inverters go off line and have to cycle it on and off. not every time but will do it.

Does everything work & display correctly when running on shore power?
Did you verify that the inverter bypass switch did not get thrown accidentally ( I had that happen to me when loading out the bay where they are located)
Using a voltage meter, did you check the ac2 input lines for 120 volts on the inverter?

Hello Alex,
Everything shows OK on shore power on both inverters
Inverter bypass switch? I only have (2) inverters emergency switch(as labeled), both are on
I did not check the ac input on the inverters – have to remove stuff/panels
I did shutdown the entire coach for approx 10 min to reset everything…no change in gen AC2 for inv #2

My Marathon has a generator sub panel in bay 2 street side. There are breakers in there two of which go from the generator to the inverter gen ac input. Check there if you haven’t already.
