Not surprised. Have no personal knowledge of such a limitation, but I imagine in wanting to protect their bottom line they don’t want more than seven using their showers or toilets. Those extra four people will probably use $.50 more water.

Rent two sites? Go find a couple in an RV and use the people credits they have? Pay a couple of dollars more for the extra four above your allowance?

They complain when folks dry camp in a Walmart, yet that appears to be what they want you to do.

Ask the question when you make reservations, I think they will only charge you extra for the number of people over the limit. If you are only staying a day or two probably not a big deal.

Yeah I am trying to find a solution for this tour. We are going to be moving through 47 cities from April – December. So really we need a place to shower / hook up for a night or two max in each location.

I tried calling KOA HQ in Montana. Got a lovely lady, and she explained that there is no Rule against my request of 11 adults. However it is up to each owner of the KOAs in question. Since they are all owned and operated by private owners.

So I suppose I will start to call a few of them tomorrow and see what they say. One would assume its just an extra fee for the “services” like water (as suggested). At least I am hoping that is the deal. Cause having to get a few hotel rooms just to have a shower is gonna hurt my budget big time.

To be honest the bus has a shower on board…but to have 11 people use it in a none hooked up situation doesn’t seem to work…I would think we would run out of fresh water quick 🙂

There is an alternative. Rent a single room in a hotel or motel near your venue.

Use the room for showers, etc.

Your coach water and sewer can be taken care of at dumping stations along your route. My guess is the $39.99 rate at some hotels might be a better deal than some campgrounds.

Curious…….do you tow? How do you get to your venue if the bus is in the KOA?

When you get a chance pick up the Big Rigs book, a Woodalls, the Next Exit, etc. from a Camping World or order on line. Those are tools we all use in addition to using our laptops for trip planning.

The problem with renting one room for showers…is it’s a known industry trick in my line of work. So the hotel chains usually catch on and it causing havoc. So in a tour of this nature I am not looking to cause problems for myself or my crew.

We are towing a 12′ enclosed trailer (15′ overall) so we are 60′ total. We are usually parked at the venue with the bus and trailer. Usually we are in each venue for 1-2 days and we roll to the next city. So getting to and from “campground” or hook up would really be in the bus and not require other transportation.

There are a few locations where we will be there for 3-4 days…so we might just rent a 15 passenger van or something like that to get us back and forth…since we wont need the trailer at the venue until the last day to pack up and move on. Some of these venues will let us drop the trailer (of course locking it up the hitch and trailer) there, so that might help in a campground.

I have seen those books and directories online. I will put them on my list of items to purchase thanks for that!!

Try the fairgrounds they have a lot of nice places and want people to stay not very pricey I stay at them 35 weeks a year but I don’t use anything but the power and water some have 50 amp all have 30amp usually nobody there either

Are you reffering to State fairgrounds?? or is this another chain like KOA?? Sorry to sound dumb in asking this. LOL

There are a lot of KOAs, but there are significantly more RV parks than KOAs. Most are privately owned so you may not ever run into the policy KOA has. There are also many options on public properties such as state and national parks.

One thing you absolutely have to consider is the season. In warmer climates the RV parks are going to be open all year long, but during the winter getting a site may be difficult unless you make reservations well in advance. Up north it is common for campgrounds and RV parks to be closed during the winter and you will not find any sites.

In your planning for the schedule it sounds like you already have you might consider early reservations and alternative considerations if you have to be in Minnesota in January for example.

I believe most campgrounds, if not all, have a maximum number of people for the standard rate they quote. I think the real question here is do campgrounds actually enforce their policy of charging for the additional people. I know that in some high demand campgrounds they don’t really need the business, like Mrtyle Beach in the summer, so they do charge for extra vistors on a given site.
