I don’t recognize any of that?

The 5 tag axle diesel pushers I’ve owned, yr models 1995 to 2002, all had Meritor.

I did some sleuthing on the net, I believe they are KNORR-BREMSE. My luck, after I downloaded the two awesome manuals you linked and printed out your specific directions and took it under the bus with me. And…. I couldn’t find any of the items mentioned. I don’t even see how they are lubed, didn’t see a grease fitting. So I guess I can rule out over greasing as the cause of the pad drag.

Those are indeed Knorr-Bremse. They have a boot or seal on the slide pin that deteriorates over time allowing dirt and moisture on the slide pins, causing dragging or lock up.

Rebuilding them is not all that hard. The rebuild kit includes two different types of grease and explains where to use them. Pay attention to the instructions.

My Prevost manuals have the Knorr-Bremse manual as part of the booklet. There are great instructions (and pictures too??). Also found online how to videos too.

Found various articles stating the only real issues with the Knorr-Bremen is the slide pins dragging or locking up from dirt or rust and normally happens on vehicles not frequently used. Biggest problem was noted as vehicle (wheels) being washed then stored (not driven afterwards) allowing rust to form on the slide pins.

When I rebuilt mine they were in need but still in working order.

Thanks for the good information. I did have a pad drag situation on the left front wheel. I was wondering if the brakes were over greased at the dealership, but I couldn’t even see a grease fitting on the caliper.

Do they have grease fittings, or are they just lubricated by hand with the specialized grease you mention when doing a rebuild or inspection?

So I guess I can rule out the “over greasing” possibility for the pad drag.
