Knee replacement?
Has anyone had one or both knees replaced or partial replacement? Thanksgiving 1972 me and my brother were at Saddleback park in southern calif ridding our dirt bikes, I rode a TM 400 Suzuki and brother rode a 360 MX Yamaha and we were fearless and on the Scrambles track I bit the dust and broke my right knee at the joint. They put a bolt through it and a cast from toe to hip for 9 months, not good. I was 17 years so after a year I could walk again. Did pretty much everything till 55 years old and it bothered some, now at 65 it hurts all the time, when I drive for a long time it stiff and hurts like hell I have to straighten out my knee a lot. What’s the story on knee replacements or partial, can you drive the bus for a while and walk without a limp or pain? Would be nice to drive the bus without massive pain??

Dirt biking was very rough on my knees too. I’ve had the same issues that you’ve described since I was in my early 30s, now I’m 51. Besides driving, just sitting makes it hard to stand up or walk until my knees get accustomed to standing again. Before the Vid, the looks I would get when I’d stand up when waiting on a table at a restaurant. The injuries sustained when I was young a bulletproof are telling me now! My Dr told me when I was 32 that there was no more cartilage left, but I could not replace my knees until my late 50s. I still drive as far as my bladder allows without stopping, stretching my legs as much as possible.
I’ve had friends that had a knee replacement in their late 60s and their only comment was, “I should have done it a long time ago!”

I had both of mine replaced about 10 years ago. I walk 3 miles every day with no pain whatsoever. I had both of mine replaced at same time. Please do not do this! Way to much surgical shock and dangerous. Key to success is rehabilitation. I went to a rehab hospital after leaving hospital where they worked my Knees several times a day. Just as important I was not a burden to my family.
Your success depends on your attitude. You must enter surgery as if you are going to war. If they say perform an exercise once a day do it 4 times a day. Most importantly if it hurts while doing an exercise that is a good thing. Means you are getting movement in your knee. Please do not lay on the couch afraid to move. If you follow above advice you will truly wonder why you did not do it earlier. Good luck.

I had both mine replaced many years ago… wore them out on the tennis court and running… best thing I ever did… rehab is the key to success. Don’t do it if not willing to rehab properly. I did great and would do again if I had to. Good luck. Find a good surgeon tooo !!

Art, I had both knees replaced at the same time in late 2016. I had met the protocol for doing both at once. It was very clearly explained to me what I would probably go through doing them together, but I made the decision to do it as I did not wish to go through the rehab process twice and one knee was as bad as the other. I fully agree that it is not for everyone but it worked for me. The first two weeks was a living hell but once I got past that and the rehab started kicking in it went very well.
