The ignition key can be made by just about any key maker (they will have the appropriate blank) You need to order the gas tank door key blanks (VIRO) from Prevost and have them cut by a key maker or locksmith. I have tried to have those keys made by a few different key makers and they never work.

At one time the Viro key was the same for all coaches. It worked on the rear engine doors as well as the gas tank doors.

call Prevost Parts, give them your ViN, and they can provide pre-cut keys. For the bay/gas door keys, cut keys cost less than blanks when I bought some 3 years ago.

I did the same for my 07.

Gave Prevost the number stamped in the keys and they sent me the keys from parts in IL.

I got my blanks from Prevost because local shops didn’t have them and they ain’t cheap! Standard shops with the new hi falootin lazer machines couldn’t cut them. Had to take them to a locksmith who had a manual machine. Had to go back three times until they got them right.

I recall that when I was on the Brand X Prevost online forum before Geo Prentice got me on the better paved Prevost CommunityRoad one of the more active posters (possibly an admin type person) posted that he had bought a new to him and his family coach and one of the first things he did was replace all the “small key locks” (I presume rear and side engine bay doors, fueling doors, etc.) with similar style latches that had combinations and NOT keys). I thought that was pretty slick idea. Then its easy to lock and unlock and you don’t have to worry about always having a key to lock and unlock those access points. As I recall he had the ability to set the combinations to whatever he wanted, probably something easy to remember. I haven’t done this, but I’ve seen those kind of latches over the years.

Dick – That’s because back in those days the practical jokes were some of the best and it was always fun watching someone try to start their bus with the rear switch off. Even if there were blow up sheep taped to the roof of the bus, it was big fun.

All those keys for the XL’s were the same, including the engine compartment, hence the need for a custom lock to keep the weenies from screwing with your switch.
