kenmore dryer lint filter element
Getting around to make sure the washer/dryer are in good shape and functional and found that the kidney shape lint filter in the top dryer has a foam insert…
Never seen something like that. Is that normal ?
So to be clear, on the back wall of the dryer there is a lint filter that has a cover with 2 holes in it. You pull it out and the filter “element” comes out. There is a screen filter basket attached to the back side of the cover with holes and inside this filter there is a black foam with a rigid middle plastic frame that filles completely the filter basket.
Is this the way this is supposed to be ? I can not find on any diagram the foam insert, not available from Sears or any other place, you can buy the plastic cover with holes, the wire basket but not the foam …..
What is the purpose for that foam ? The lint would plug it immediately and block exhaust the way I see it…..I can understand the lint being caught in the basket and having to be cleaned between drying cycles but why is there a foam elemnt there ?
Anybody care to shed some light on this ?

It is in place while not in use to keep dust from the road from getting into the dryer. You remove it when in use.
