Jon if you had to quess what do you think is the rating of max weight for your stands you made us? I see that Harbor Frieght has some stand that they say are rated for 12 Tons. I was thinking of buying more stands and wondered it these would do the job safely?

If Jon would give me a drawing i would make some stands and sell at what they cost to make. My neighbor is a great welder he did most of the welding at wet and wild in Orlando.

Hi David, if that ends up happening, count me in for a pair.

    Thank you.

Heavy enough to hold the rear of a coach with no ill effects. But I do not know what the limit is. We never tested that.

FWIW Harbor Freight does have a good alternative. The air over hydraulic jacks make an excellent stand and have the advantage of being used as a jack. When I use mine (I have 4) as a stand i make sure the hydraulic lift is all the way down and i just screw out the center threaded post.

For $80 each that is a deal.

When jack stands such as Harbor Freight sells are rated at 12 tons are they 12 tons for the pair, or are they 12 tons each. Until I knew that I would not consider them.

I have two, rated at 12 ton, gave $89 (each) for them. When I jack it up, it still has a healthy amount of wood cribbing and flat plate in there “just in case.”

I am not trusting my life to anything Made In China, just isn’t worth it.

The cynic in me suggests a clerk in HF is not who I would be getting advice from. Especially when the advice might have fatal consequences if wrong.

    OK Jon,

I’m trying to get a better job, my calculations indicate one of the stands will hold 857 stone without any lateral forces.

When I asked about the stand rating being individual or the pair, I was told the rating is for the pair.
