Ok I have to pile on because…

The hard work that went into Jamestown Advanced Products cannot be even explained. There are folks in this country that just need a job. It might not be the desk job…..it might not be a skilled job. But it is a job, and a job makes you think and may be the job that bridges you to a better job.

The folks that keep shipping our jobs offshore and telling people we are going to have new green energy jobs are globalists eroding our country. It is very hard for 2nd generation companies to keep going once the founder has left so I appluade the conviction of the ownership and employees.

I have worked in a skilled manufacturing sector of the Aviation Industry for 35 plus years and I still am working because I have to support the Marathon Prevost :-). Aerospace out sources in modules fuselages, wings, etc to countries around the world for political and economic reasons.

I helped the following company get started in business in 1991. I use to walk through Jeff Bonner’s bedroom to a shed in his backyard where he was making parts for something we patented eventually. Today he spans 65,000 sq ft next to the airport and everyday is still a struggle … we have truly been blessed.

It is harder and harder to find people to be sheetmetal mechanics, avionincs techs, machinists etc… we really need to have a awakening the in the country to “Buy American”. We do not need all this junk from China and need to protect our country from the stealing of intellectual property. But this will only stop with the election of people that get it.

The issue surrounding bringing business back to our country is incredibly complex and there are so many factors at work that stifle any efforts in that direction it seems impossible.

I touched on regulations domestic companies have to abide by. The cost of OSHA regulations, environmental regulations, unemployment taxes, and various mandated insurances are daunting.

My biggest competitor for employees however was this country’s generous welfare programs. Why should anyone work when given the right state and circumstances a very comfortable living can be enjoyed without ever lifting a finger other than to stay one step ahead of those trying to bring the systems under control.

Another problem of serious proportions looms because when we reach the tipping point where more are receiving benefits than those paying taxes to provide those benefits we are in a down hill race to the bottom.

Then we have a general public that is clueless. When a politician imposes tariffs he gets a standing ovation. Who does the general public think pays those tariffs. If you said the end consumer you get a gold star. It is that kind of mentality possessed by elected officials who pander to the masses. Nothing made me happier at Jamestown Advanced than to see our employees become conservative capitalists who really understood global competition and how punishing our government really was.

We have not only exported jobs due to all of the conditions that make that attractive, worse, we have exported technology. When we do not possess the skills, technology, and willingness to work we are screwed.

Name a single domestic producer of smart phones, TVs, and a myriad of other products that have become a part of everyday life. Is there anyone here who thinks that design and production of goods will ever return?
