My business is located on 3 acres of undeveloped beachfront property on Lake Erie minutes from downtown Buffalo, NY. Last summer, my brother-in-law stayed for a week in his ’98 Marathon. We ran 150 feet of 50 amp service and water line from the outside of my shop. No sewage dump…that was a quick trip up to Camping World 5 minutes away midway through the stay. They loved the setting and this will be an annual stop from their home base in Miami.
I recently bought a 2006 Marathon which is still in Oregon and I will take possession by end of April. I have never stayed in an RV resort or hooked up a Prevost in a first class RV resort setting. But I want to duplicate a beach Prevost setting for my own private use. I have a blank canvas with 350′ of beachfront.
Spring is almost here and I will be doing a lot of grading and tree planting on the property during the month of May. I want to get my property by the lake set up for two full service 50 amp sites for friends and family. Ambitious for a newbie…of course. But I do need to dig the trench for the electric and water at this point. I’m not sure whether we’ll be able to tie into the sewer line or not since we are very downhill from the main line.
Any suggestions about power pedestals, or any aspect of what makes a good spot and/or pictures would be appreciated.

Sounds like a great project, we go back to Brockport every summer with the bus, that’s our hometown. Can’t beat western NY in summer, that’s July and August..

Right down the road from you in Jamestown NY you will find the best power outlets combined with the best price.
Go to http://www.jamestownadvanced.com. All you then have to decide is the type and configuration. You can use a pedestal type or pole mounted. I would suggest it be 50-30-20 so you can accomodate anything from a Coleman pop top camper to a Prevost.

Jamestown Advanced has been making power outlets both private labelled for a variety of companies as well as those bearing its own name for almost 20 years. If you want to see a 165,000 foot production facility ask for a plant tour. It is located just off Route 60 just north of the city on the airport.

Last year I installed a surface mount 50/30/20 campground box on our RV pad. The one I purchased on-line from Washington state was exactly what I needed but had one flaw.
Since most 50 amp plugs are designed with a right angle so that the cord hangs straight down, the surface of the power box needs to be flat and flush with the face of the plug. This particular box had a metal ridge due to the way the box sheet metal was formed and did not allow the plug to go in fully. The plug had to be cocked at an angle, still usable but not ideal.
I dissambled the power box and cut and rebent the sheetmetal to remove the problem. It now looks factory and has no interference with the plug.
I could have lived with the way it was if it was somewhere I was just visiting but since it was MY pad and I would be using it all the time, modifications were required.

Wouldn’t have been a problem with the Jamestown Advanced power outlets.
They were designed by a Prevost owner. (Me.)

Reading your post I do recall RV power boxes made with a lip near the bottom preventing power cord meeting a
flush contact. I wondered what were they thinking ?
Did’nt anyone ever try this out with a 50 amp RV cord to see if worked ?
Where was Jon when I needed him to fix this ?

Al, I travel with a 50 amp extension cord that has a straight plug on the end just so I can avoid the raised lip issue. Or at least until a few weeks ago I though I could avoid a problem.
I was parked at an Ag Center that had a single 50 amp receptical in a small weather proof box. The sides of the box kept the straight plug from going in all the way. A little work with some wire cutters and pliers took care of the problem. I would have used my grinder for a more professional job but the noise might have attracted more attention than desired.
I can run over 100 feet of 50 amp cable or use a “cheater box” to feed two 30 amp circuits to the coach. I also have a custom made cheater box that allows me to run two 20 amp circuits. There is virtually no combination I can’t connect to, even the twist-on type portable generator plugs.
The things you need to do to attend dog shows in an all electric coach are significant. Most of the time and especially in the summer, I’d rather just run my generator, but sometimes that is not allowed.
I’m prewired for 8 solar panels with two solar controllers. I currently only have 4 panels as roof space is at a premium.
