  • Jake Brake light disable on Multiplex Chassis?

Posted by John on July 15, 2021 at 1:21 pm

I’ve always pulled the Brake Light on Jake relay in prior coaches. Recently traded for a 2008 multiplex chassis. It does not have the banks of relays. I’m guessing Prevost can change this programming? Has anyone done this, or other ideas?

John, I think you are stuck with reprogramming because the multiplex system is always measuring every circuit and comparing the current against what it is supposed to be. I do not know if the tail lights are engaged through a relay external to the modules or directly through the modules, but I strongly suspect it has to be a programming change if they are allowed to do it. It might be a DOT requirement to light the brake lights even if the braking is only supplemental braking like a Jake or retarder.

Give them a call and if you find out let us know.

Yes it’s in settings and Prevost can go in there and turn it off with the laptop.

But were checking on a possible wire you can also pull.

Prevost does not want to cut the wire. Go in and they can simply turn it off in settings.

like A1 said no concern with any DOT issue turning it off.

On my 2011, Prevost Jax had a tech in Stuart cut whatever wire it was. John Kincaid supervised it. Left it so it could be put back if someone wanted it again.
