Jack stand height
Posted by Brady on May 21, 2021 at 6:19 pmWhat is typical fixed jack stand height used to support a coach assuming bus is aired up? Safety support while servicing.

Brady, there are two heights required. I cannot remember what will work with an XLII, but my guess is the fronts will be around 13″ and the rear about 10″ or 11″.
I will be able to get in the garage later and will try to get the exact dimensions.

These stands were offer for sale on this site “Flea Market” section. Height is marked on top of stand.

Didn’t know this was such a hot topic. Maybe after I modify these I can get Jon to sign them… Tks again for the help

Brady: I’m going to make some too. I was thinking to get the Coach to ride height and build them 1/8″ to 1/4″ shorter.
Then I saw commentary that they
should be 1/2″ to 1″ short and the use shims to close part of the gap.
A number of options.

I am going to cut these even, weld up solid, blast and paint.. find shims to adjust. $120 estate sale find…

Cool find! Being that they have been chopped off i wonder what their original purpose was. Maybe something to hold up a rail car?

Bought 4 of these off Amazon a couple years back. . Adjustable and 20 or 25 support tons a piece. Seems like they were 100 bucks for the set..

I plan to work in the garage today and if my CRS doesn’t affect me today I will get some dimensions.
But I think there are some things that are noteworthy. First I use Harbor Freight air over hydraulic bottle jacks as often as i use my stands. The bottle jacks are multi purpose so with respect to stands they are more valuable to me.
When used as support I leave the jack in its lowest position and raise the threaded center post only.
I always use the support stands at the rear because it is just easier to slide them in position using a steel rod I bent to make it easy to guide them where needed.
Generally between trips I raise the coach and put supports under it, and then deplete the air in the air bags. That allows me to go under the bus at any time because it is supported, but by dumping air in the air bags I think I am helping prolong the life of tires and minimizing flat spots.

Jack stands done. Settled on 13″ height supplemented by shims as needed. Ropes to help handle and position.

I’ll bet Tommy really appreciates having those in The Hangar and is a regular user. Nice job! I like the choice of color.
