I did not ask my question very well. I am speaking about the oil temp gauge on the dash at the far upper right. I know it measures temps of the transmission fluid. What should that read on a 98 liberty xl? Mine reads barley past 140 which is where the gauge starts but the mid scale temp is about 195 degs. I assume it is reading too low. What are your thoughts.

Wave, normally my “oil temp” gauge reads 190-95 and I’ve seen it go up to 210-15. When starting out cold, it takes me about half an hour of highway speeds to get it up to temp. I try to run it slow (55 mph) at first until it gets warmed up. I’ve noticed that the gauge in the “engine room” (love that term) tracks the dash gauge verbatim.

If your looks like this while driving, be happy. JIM

Hi Jim, I’ve noticed that your house battery gauge seems to be reading hot. Mine only gets up to about 14. What’s “normal” for that gauge? Other than that, my gauges all look the same as yours (except for the tac and speedo). I drive about 60! I never want to get there… I’m havng to much fun driving!

The gauge has always read that way. Engine and house batteries last 5 years. No issues noted. That’s all I know. It was 105 degs outside and 68 degs inside, OTR cranking, TX two weeks ago.

Jim has a 24 volt coach. That might explain the difference.

Jon said: The three guages on my 97 were oil pressure, coolant temp, and transmission fluid temp.

The oil pressure I think read about 40 at cruise speeds. It had a jumpy needle so I couldn’t say what the actual pressure was, but despite the nervous needle it never went low enough to give cause for concern.

The engine coolant gauge had a difficult range of readings. I don’t remember what the minimum and maximum markings were, but the marked temperature closest to the needle I think was 190 or 195. The needle rarely pointed to that mark, instead it seemed to reside between 200 and 210 varying depending on OAT and driving conditions, namely hills.

My 95/96 has the same guages and pretty much tracks the same as Jon’s 97 did on the engine temps. My oil pressure runs a little closer to 60 than it does to 40 but it dances all the time.

The transmission fluid temp guage runs just under 200 but then I do not have a transmission retarder.
