Inverting gone away
So, my problem….Freedom 2000 inverter no longer inverting, but charging. I have replaced inverter with exact same unit, as it has done very well for us , given the age of the coach and how we use it. Now, however it seems this relay is failing as we can manually trip it and inverter does its job. I should clarify, it is inverting but not getting past this relay. It looks like bottom arm has been discolored and I did have some hi temp issues this past summer. Question is, I don’t want to pull it till I have a replacement on hand and I can’t find a part number. It is similar but different from relay replaced in coach for one of our Cruise Airs, oh, and I did replace the Auto Transfer switch assy 2 years ago. Anyone with some help?

There is no downside to pulling it. When you have it in your hand it is likely you will find it has the manufacturer’s name and part number on it. At that point you can do a seach on the internet for a supplier of the relay. The ones I had in my previous coach were Potter Brumfield and the name was right on the relay.
Keep your photo. plus make a sketch of what wire goes where. You do not need the exact relay if that is no longer available. You just need one with the same voltage coil and the same number of contacts and configuration rated the same as the existing one if a direct replacement is not available.

Do you know what this relay is doing? It clearly is not carrying the inverter load. The vintage Freedom 2000 inverter/chargers I have are self contained, meaning they monitor AC input and automatically which inverter output to the coach load when AC input is not present. Your’s may be older and require an external sensing relay. If so, Xantrex should be able to help if you can’t find the part number.

I agree with Jon. You have an excellent picture with which to reinstall the wiring when you have new relay in hand. As you note there is discoloration of lower arm contacts, which mean there is/was a heat issue. If you are powered down completly, sometimes you can take a small non-metal fingernail file and burnish the contacts. If you do this be sure to clean the filings from the contacts before powering back up. If you can get it to work, once removed you can probably find a name on it. The just google the name and part number. You could also call zantrex but I have found them genrally not helpful. For us self builders, like myself, Dick Wright at Wrico International in Eugene, OR has 40 years of experience in the bus conversion business. I bet he could help you as well probably without taking the relay out. His number is 541-744-4333. BTW, his right hand man is Justin and though helpful in selling you things and a generally nice guy, is much less helpful in helping you work through a problem. Best to stick with talking to Dick, at least until you know what you need. Also, another source, since you have a great picture, post it and your needed help in finding a replacement on the Bus Conversions website, http://www.busconversions.com as there are several electrical engineers on there including one, named Shawn that are real resources.
