  • Inverter or battery?

    My galley cruise air among other things runs off the #1 inverter/

    Noticed a (New) voltage drop on inverter #1 when galley cruise air is running.

    The 12V and the 24V drops form Float 13V and 26V.

    The amp display increases on the 12house, but I have never seen (amp draw) on 24house?

    Since I full time I run two or three cruise n hot afternoons.

    Pedestal voltage shows a drop also ( Progressive has two Blue lights)

    Do I start lookin at batteries or Inverters?

    PS Batteries are only 3 years old Lifelines.

    I believe air cond only run off converters when no shor or gen power when hooked to shor or gen they by pass inverters I mean inverters not converters

    I am not familiar with Marathon’s (Tom’s the guy) but just a couple of questions.

    First, as I look at that it suggests you are running 2 A/Cs on the same leg. Not a good practice, especially if you have other items on the same leg such as a water heater, water pump, aux compressor, etc.

    Second, I assume you are on shore power, and if so I doubt if your A/C is any more than a pass through. So any imbalance is likely because you are loading only one leg of that shore power.

    If my interpretation of what I am seeing is correct I don’t think the batteries are an issue now, however as batteries age, and especially if there is a problem with them the inverters are going to draw a lot of power trying to charge or maintain a charge in addition to all the other loads.

    Power management is something you have to be doing and it starts with knowing what devices are on which leg and inverter, the loads each device imposes, the current draw the inverters are set for charging, etc.

    on this model marathon front and bed room and water heater are on one leg water heater pulls app 11.5 amps

    Looks normal to me, white numbers are negative. The second picture I assume shows 3 A’C’s running, 2 on leg 1 and one on leg 2. You have to be careful on managing leg 1 with 2 A/C’s going, wouldn’t take much to push it up over 40 amps and probably trip a breaker.

    The 111 volts during these hot days is not uncommon, as the power companies are struggling to keep up with demand. I’ve been seeing 111 and 112 on one leg at three different sites in the last 7 days. As soon as you load it with amps, down goes the voltage even lower.

    It takes some power management to keep from having problems, especially in the summer. I keep the legs as balanced as possible with only 2 A/C’s running most of the time when power is shitty. Water heater, aux compressor, water pump, microwave, etc. can make power management a necessity.

    This is the time to use the Autoformer when everyone is running their AC’s and the power is low, Call these guys at Hughes Autoformer they can explain how it works, It will boost your volts up (888) 540-1504

    Art, you do realize there are no free lunches. To give you the desired voltage it comes at the expense of available current (amperage) so the issue still is balancing loads as I suggested in the first post.

    Thanks for the replies. I did not go into detail, but the day before the 24v house side, got down to 24v. The pedestal was down to 109v.

    so I started the generator, and both inverters went into Bulk Charge.

    I used the A/c’s Last year and never saw the House side draw down that much.
