Introduction
Hello to all. I am 60 YO vet, and I’m looking to buy 1990 Prevost. Total N E W B! I own 34′ Bounder, and have few thousand miles in it, so I’m not new to motorhomes in general. Now the questions about the Prevost!
We narrowed our choice of the next coach to Prevost, Monaco, Beaver, and Safari. Prevost is in the lead for number of reasons, and I think most of you out there know what the advantages of the Prevost are over the other brands. We prefer sturdiness over slides, and we want minimmum 40′, diesel, and the tag axle. Electric awnings, computerized “systems”, entertainment packages and such, we don’t care for. We are not concerned about the gas mileage, and light weight fiberglass coaches, laminate wood and such we don’t care much for. Looking for a sturdy metal coach, with real wood cabinets, real ceramic tile, basic sound system, basic flat screen/DVD package (we very seldom watch live TV). We have three dogs that travel with us everywhere (two GSDs, and the Alaskan Malamute), and we don’t need the alarm systems and such.
We are (wife and I) planning to purchase 1990 Prevost Linden conversion. Looking for info on Linden on line was waste of time (haven’t found anything). So I would appreciate any info on Linden you might have, or know, positive and especially negative! We plan to park the coach on our 10 acre property in Idaho (recently acquired), that has power, and well. Thinking of living in the coach while the main house is being built, with weekend drives through Wyoming, Montana, and Washington (in the winter as well). After the house is done, we will keep the coach for vacations/weekends. Prevost has “five ribs” on the front, and I learned that this means that it’s “tall”. It also carries XL designation.
So if it’s not too much to ask…….how does 1990 (low miles) coach perform? How is it the cold? Are the bays heated? Engine is 8SV92 Detroit, and the tranny is Allison 5 speed (don’t know anything about either!). How does it perform on grades? What is the maintenance schedule?
I am VERY mechanically inclined, and a firm believer in DIY (we own two Range Rovers, S class Benz, and a Jag, plus three motorcycles, and a GMC Sierra truck. I perform ALL repairs/maintenance on all vehicles we own).
I’d like to find out what I’m “in for”, before I put the money on the table. Asking price is within out budget, and I don’t have to tell you that the thing is GORGEOUS!
